Major caveat here: if I didn't have a vague idea of how this trilogy ended, I wouldn't be continuing to the next book. At the moment, I deem it worthwhile to continue, because I think having the full story told in this manner will add to the catharsis/emotional impact of the ending. But, from a 'single book' perspective, Evans has made a bold choice in making the entire work background for the narrative 1/?
This is the story of Charles James who accepts a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and finds his way on the path to fortune. But is money always worth it?
I enjoyed the story of how Charles got in to the business and I appreciated the idea.
Overall, it just was not as magical as I had hoped, but it was decent.

Finally got off the wait list at my library for this one! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ excellent moral tale about a man who thinks he has the life he wants.. but does he? I can‘t wait until the second book comes out.

Alas, as with so many books I own, these are still unread. Have you read any?
Coincidentally my sister is flying back to Singapore after two weeks in Berlin, Prague and Budapest! She had such a great time!
I‘m surprised - I liked this book! I picked it up more out of obligation than anything else. Have to know what it‘s about in case someone asks. Instead of giving it a quick scan and then putting it back on the shelf I wound up taking the time to read it. It is a good story with strong characters. There is a simplicity to the story that is refreshing. (FYI, don‘t follow this with a book by Umberto Eco. It takes some adjustment.)
I love Richard Paul Evans books! His books always make me smile and usually cry - but not this time. Only downside is next book doesn't come out until next year😢
