Redemptor (Raybearer Book 2)
Redemptor (Raybearer Book 2) | Jordan Ifueko
21 posts | 19 read | 12 to read
The hotly anticipated sequel to the instant New York Times bestselling YA fantasy about Tarisai's quest to change her fate For the first time, an Empress Redemptor sits on Aritsar's throne. To appease the sinister spirits of the dead, Tarisai must now anoint a council of her own, coming into her full power as a Raybearer. She must then descend into the Underworld, a sacrifice to end all future atrocities. Tarisai is determined to survive. Or at least, that's what she tells her increasingly distant circle of friends. Months into her shaky reign as empress, child spirits haunt her, demanding that she pay for past sins of the empire. With the lives of her loved ones on the line, assassination attempts from unknown quarters, and a handsome new stranger she can't quite trust . . . Tarisai fears the pressure may consume her. But in this finale to the Raybearer duology, Tarisai must learn whether to die for justice . . . or to live for it.

It had been a not great week, but I finally got Redemptor finished! I found it a little too fast at times, not letting us really settle with new characters and plots, but I also think that was a strength, keeping things fast-paced especially for YA readers and exploring interesting and complex ideas of love and heroism through action rather than getting g didactic

This was a great follow up to book one, covers growing past some of the pain of the first book while layering a new level of isolation on top of it. There were a couple plot points that I don't think we're wrapped up well, but the world building and portrayal of Tar's emotional state we're amazing. Would recommend.

I made a good start on REDEMPTOR on Sunday evening, then barely had time to read two chapters yesterday. 😭 With any luck, I‘ll make up that ground today. This book is exactly what I feel like right now.

This book builds so well off the first one, with Tarisai both growing and also confronting her mistakes and shortcomings. It's fast-paced, thought-provoking, and incredibly satisfying.

This duology is just beautiful. Though the pacing of this second book is not perfect-it drags at times I‘m the first half, and the resolution feels rushed-it is still the best and most original YA fantasy I‘ve ever read. 4.5⭐️
Another square for my #bookspinbingo and first book done for #20in4 Readathon

The 2nd book in the Raybearer duology is perfection. The world building is still amazing, the plotline is exciting & I'm insanely invested in the characters. ⁣Thank Am, the audibook was narrated by the fantastic Abbott-Pratt again.

Library book haul! It was nice to wander around the library without a book goal. Just being among the shelves is incredibly relaxing. I‘m Excited to read Redemptor (I squealed when I saw it on the shelf), curious about the Ruin of Kings (a random selection), and hoping Good Luck Charm is a cute, light read.

What an incredible ending to this gorgeous duology. Tarisai is trying so hard to be the perfect and loved Empress Redemptor. Stay human and not succumb to being a god. (I AM NOT A WOMAN IM A GOD song vibes) What comes is the feeling of anxiety and it‘s negative voices. That itself struck me because of its truth in its mental battle. Felt so real, so exhausting. She fights for justice for all because she has been there, at the bottom.

I‘m so excited!! Decided to get the special Illumicrate box set of this duology. The box came with this gorgeous Lion crest that Dayo and Tarisai wear. As well as an adorable set of figures of Tarisai, Dayo, Kirah and Sanjeet
As such, I‘m intrigued by the story following Tarisai as she steps into the Raybearer role. And she‘s got unsolved issues she wants - she feels the need - to do. Including the children lost to the void
This is a dust jacket

I cannot wait for August!!!
The first of the two was incredible and I think about it so very often. It has become one of my yearly books to reread. The sequel will be much appreciated and well loved (I know it). The first left off with some unresolved problems that I can‘t wait to revisit.
Tarisai must learn whether to die for justice... or to live for it.
Either, this is absolutely gorgeous cover art
