Book #39
4/5
Like The Paris Apartment, the most recent novel I read, Greenwich Park has several twists and turns, making it a hard book to pull yourself away from. How the story begins, and where it ends, are almost like two different stories, because of all the information revealed in between.

I am not a fan of mystery/thrillers unless they have the warp and weft of “literary fiction” more than a genre formula. I do understand that defining such is difficult! (At least for me…) this one bugged me from the first page. I skipped and tested my way through and read the ending, calling it done. #BookClub #ReadICT #ColorinTitle category #DogsofLitsy #EstherFest #whpg #eBook

Just starting this for #BookClub and my mom, who is in my club, says she is only a few pages in and not impressed. THIS, sadly, influences me because, I, too, am NOT impressed! Ugh.

But. I had a piece of French Silk Chocolate Pie the other night from a fave restaurant AND I have already encountered #PieinLit with a mention of “apricot tart”. ✅ #CaresPieShow #iLovePie #ReadICT Category #VillianPOV ???

This was ok/ started out strong but the ending felt rushed. Also the audio narration was disappointing as they only had one reader for a multi POV story making it difficult to distinguish who‘s view point I was listening too. #BorrowNotBuy #AvoidAudio

TrishB I know I‘ve read it! But can hardly remember. 2y
Cinfhen I have a feeling in 6 weeks from now I won‘t remember it either @TrishB 2y
BkClubCare @Cinfhen @TrishB - would you call this a book with “villian POV”? For a reading challenge category 😂 2y

Cinfhen I can‘t remember the story anymore @BkClubCare 🤪but I don‘t recall a flat out villain 2y
TrishB @BkClubCare I think I remember different points of view and one would be the character I would say was probably the villain!? 2y
BkClubCare @TrishB @Cinfhen - LOL, I decided to skim to the end and yes, one was quite villiany! Thank you. 2y

#PetPeeve #MultiPOVthrillerSingleMonotoneReader 😬🙄This book is really good but I‘m having such a hard time figuring out who‘s POV I‘m listening to🎧Helen married is 24 weeks pregnant when she meets Rachel a single pregnant woman at a prenatal class. But Rachel isn‘t quite what seems-

TheAromaofBooks I often think that a book should be multiple 3rd-person POV instead of a bunch of 1st-person that sound way too similar. If I have to flip back to the beginning of a section to remember whose POV I'm reading, they don't sound different enough to justify it!! 2y
Cinfhen It‘s frustrating because the book is really good but the audio publisher really messed up by hiring ONLY one reader for the multiple POV chapters- @TheAromaofBooks 2y

Book 158🎧 3⭐️

Helen has had a hard time getting pregnant, but now she is ecstatic and she‘s met a new friend, Rachel, at her pregnancy classes.

But Rachel‘s behaviour is erratic and soon Helen‘s not sure how to get rid of her.. or what she wants.😬

Nothing is as it seems in the idyllic setting of Greenwich Park, and I‘m here for it. This thriller had me riveted, and the timing of the novel paced out with Helen‘s pregnancy was a really clever way to ratchet up the feeling of menace towards the novel‘s climax. The multiple POVs and cat and mouse element create a smartly executed debut. And the very last page made me chuckle with delight. Faulkner has the makings of an “auto read” author. 4⭐️

I really wanted to love this one. It has all my favorite components: unreliable narrators, short chapters that keep you turning the pages, and a beautiful London setting. However most of the characters ended up being either not that interesting/likable or just plain annoying/gullible and I wasn‘t surprised by any of the twists (other than the very last page and I didn‘t really care anymore). Not a bad story but not great either 🤷🏼‍♀️. 🌟🌟🌟

BkClubCare Would you say the narrator is “evil” or unreliable? Will that give it away, if yes? Asking because I need a book that meets “villian POV” for a reading challenge. Ty 2y
candc320 @BkClubCare hmmm….it‘s been a while since I listened to it but I don‘t think the narrator is particularly evil, and while somewhat unreliable I don‘t believe it was because she was hiding stuff. The evil characters are more the ones she‘s interacting with. Hope that helps! 2y
BkClubCare @candc320 - thank you! Yes, one of the 3 POVs could work as villiany. Thank you! 2y

This thriller is told from 3 different POV, and unveils it‘s twists throughout the book in a decent clip. Enjoyable debut and it‘s a good easy read. Some parts aren‘t believable (and probably not even possible) that take away from the writing. Katie is a strong character and makes up for Helen‘s weaknesses.

I'll admit, I was primarily drawn to the cover when I picked this one up. I went in completely blind and for a minute there I wasn't sure if I was into it. I worked out bits and pieces, but it also took some unexpected turns that were done in a way that made me feel like I should have seen it all coming, which are the twists I usually appreciate most. Overall an entertaining read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I am 175 pages in, and I‘m bailing. This book helped me admit that I have very little patience for female characters who rely so heavily on an avoidant conflict strategy that they are unable to set reasonable boundaries with other adults. Perhaps the ending would make all the lead up interesting, but my life is too precious to be continuously irritated. 🤣🤷‍♀️ This book might be another reader‘s cup of tea but is a no-go for me.

Aims42 I appreciate your honest review 👍 Life‘s too short (and the TBR pile is too large) for reading books that don‘t grab you 😊 Hope your next read is a great one!! 3y

This was a great twisty turny debut read. It can be as good or better than Gone Girl. It follows three women during the last few weeks of pregnancy. Is someone cheating? Is someone really pregnant?

Thanks, Gallery Books and NetGalley.

I enjoyed this book. The were many yellow brick roads to follow to the wrong conclusion, but if you trust your gut instinct you'll probably have it figured out pretty early on. Overall, I really enjoyed it because although I never quite knew what was going on at any given moment, I was compelled to figure it out. I feel like the disorganization of the writing style really helped to keep me guessing. 🌟 🌟🌟🌟

I'm enjoying this one too! Two decent thrillers in a row and they're each so different in the style of writing but I've liked both. This book has several characters and there are lots of twists and turns. I think my suspicions are going to be correct but I'm hoping not! Bring in the twists!

Christyco125 Ooo. I like twisty. Is the narrator good? 3y

Happy Publication Day! This debut thriller set in a posh London neighborhood is tough to put down! After a rough road to her current pregnancy, Helen has started her maternity leave at 20 weeks- with a house being renovated & a sudden new friend from her prenatal class, she starts to feel like things aren‘t right… but how much is she imagining? The plot takes some expected turns, but there are a few surprises too. Captivating from start to finish!

This is a debut novel and I really liked it. It is a suspenseful thriller (not a lot of blood and guts) and deals with families, secrets, infidelity and pregnancy. It was tightly plotted and had a satisfying ending. I look forward to more from this author in the future. I gave it 4.5/5 stars. (Note that it also dealt with miscarriage and rape and may not be for all readers.)

A deliciously fun and twisty thriller that I stayed up way too late devouring. (So much for a responsible return to the real world.) I found the first half seriously creepy in the vein of Single White Female and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle. I think it‘s best enjoyed if you go in knowing as little as possible. I‘d also recommend avoiding the already annoying marketing & comparisons. Out in the U.S. later this month. 👍🏼

TrishB I enjoyed this one 👍🏻 3y

This is quite an exciting and gripping read, although I did have to suspend my belief at times. It‘s told from three different viewpoints and I never knew who to believe. There are quite a few twists and turns and my brain began to hurt with all the tension, trying to work it all out! All in all a compelling, exciting and enjoyable debut, it had me on tenterhooks a lot of the time. I loved the ending - it deserves a resounding cheer! #Pigeonhole

Well that was quite a twisty tale. I could predict what happened to Rachel and where she was, I also figured out her killer but some of the other twists caught me out. The plot is steady but flows well. It jumps from different people which I like. The ending was good but the big showdown was a little short for me. It does get explained though. The very last scene was good though. The writing was well done and descriptive. #Netgalley 4*
