Blue-skinned Kalki is raised within an ashram in Tamil Nadu as an avatar of Vishnu. In other words, a god. I considered bailing 2 hours in, then read a review that said there‘s an explosive 2nd half despite a slow start, so I upped the playback speed & kept going. Also picked cherries & made jelly while listening. I‘m glad I stuck with this exploration of what we are told to believe & what we choose to believe. #LGBTQ #Audiobook #ShadowGiller2022
Excellent writing about a young man who spends his youth being told by his father he is a god. His father “markets“ him as he builds up an ashram. I learned a lot about India I didn't know before but also found universality in this coming of age story about a boy who suddenly is forced to question what he has always thought to be true.
Kalki is born with blue skin and is brought up to believe he is the incarnation of Vishnu who will heal people at his parents‘ ashram in India. He eventually learns some things that don‘t quite fit that story and has to figure out how to find his way forward. I loved the premise of this and enjoyed the characters, but it is SO slow to develop.
This book was SO GOOD! 5⭐️ for sure. My 2nd book of the year.
Ok so this might be one of my favorite books that I've read this year. I loved the main character Kaliki. He was dynamic, sympathetic and as a main character you saw all different sides of him. From believing for the majority of his life that he was the reincarnation of Krishna and the impact it had on his life and choices throughout his life as an adult.
If you are looking for a great page turner this is it.

Book Haul post 1! 💞📚💞
I went in hoping to get the tagged book, but of course ended up leaving with more! 😁 Both top books are lit fiction books I've been wanting to read for a little while, the bottom two are second books in series I started, and the far right book is, I'm pretty certain, vampire porn! 😂👍
Today‘s book haul is another collection of ARCs curtesy of my former co-workers who save books they think might be of interest to me. (They‘re usually right!) They stick post-its with their names in ones they specifically want my reviews of and I always bring back those I think they should (will want to) also read. Such a great group of friends and I love talking books with them!
