Love reading on the bus and trolley
I‘m so impressed with the audio narration for this title. Such a great take on motherhood and the stress of keeping it all together. This mother has an added issue — substance abuse disorder which has greatly impacted her life and the way she‘s raising her son. This was so well done; I felt like I was in the MC‘s shoes the entire way. 💔
The audiobook was read by the author and I appreciated hearing how she wanted the story to be told - sometimes frantic, other times subdued.
This is the story about a woman fighting her alcohol addiction in order to keep her little boy.

I can‘t find my words, but here‘s what I know. I LOVED this book. Every bit of it. Excellent writing, an interesting look at addiction and family and what‘s perceived as “good” by the outside world. I thought it was great! 🤩👏🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Edited to add that no character has made me more anxious than David.
Got this book from the library then discovered it was on my shelf at home, lost amongst the other trillion books I own but haven‘t read. It‘s just who I am. And I didn‘t realize a woman was on the cover, which is shocking considering my unmatched attention to detail. 😜😏
Harding kept me turning the pages quickly but not because the subject was easy. Sonya is a failed actress, trauma survivor, and alcoholic. She is trying to raise her 4 year old son and thinks the alcohol is not interfering until she‘s forced to get sober or lose him forever. This is an emotional read about a mother who is trying not to pass on her trauma to her son.
Triggers abound: ⬆️ + domestic abuse, rape, manipulation, etc. but a good novel.
1. Can I just hang out with The Thursday Murder Club for a while!?
2. Scrolled through my posts to find a recent troublesome character - David, from Bright Burning Things (tagged). Not cool, dude!
3. 13 seconds, Patrick Mahomes, Touchdown Kanzazzzz City!! Go Chiefs!

This book was, at once, both devastating and captivating to listen to on #audiobook. The narrator (author) really impacted the intensity at which you feel each moment the character experiences. It's a manic tone and fitting for the content. It was a little sad too, in my opinion, I felt down after reading it because it provoked emotion, it was tangible. Which makes it a top recommendation from me.
I recently finished A School For Good Mothers which was so tough for me to get through, but it was so good. This book had a very similar feeling throughout with a much different ending. This book will make you cringe at times, but I am pretty sure this is exactly what the author wanted to convey.
I recommend this book highly.
Vivid, intense, chaotic, unnerving, unflinching, raw, messy, dizzying- all these feelings & emotions swirling in and around Sonya, a single mum struggling with alcoholism addiction. Sonya‘s love for her son Tommy is fierce but she doesn‘t know how to parent and her love for the bottle leads her to bad decisions. This book was a gut punch but there is hope and redemption. Audio narration was excellent, read by the author.
It‘s been 16 years since A Million Little Pieces but I had a personal experience with the book making the controversy visceral. As I started this I realized I still wasn‘t ready to experience a story told only from the perspective of the addict (single mom) entering, moving through, and the aftermath of treatment. But this was very well done, and 1/3 way in I found myself rooting for Sonya. …And David - not okay!
Hot off the presses!! Liking it 🎧💕
