When Dimple Met Rishi meets Ugly Delicious in this funny, smart romantic comedy, in which two Vietnamese-American teens fall in love and must navigate their newfound relationship amid their families' age-old feud about their competing, neighboring restaurants. If Bao Nguyen had to describe himself, he'd say he was a rock. Steady and strong, but not particularly interesting. His grades are average, his social status unremarkable. He works at his parents' pho restaurant, and even there, he is his parents' fifth favorite employee. Not ideal. If Linh Mai had to describe herself, she'd say she was a firecracker. Stable when unlit, but full of potential for joy and fire. She loves art and dreams pursuing a career in it. The only problem? Her parents rely on her in ways they're not willing to admit, including working practically full-time at her family's pho restaurant. For years, the Mais and the Nguyens have been at odds, having owned competing, neighboring pho restaurants. Bao and Linh, who've avoided each other for most of their lives, both suspect that the feud stems from feelings much deeper than friendly competition. But then a chance encounter brings Linh and Bao in the same vicinity despite their best efforts and sparks fly, leading them both to wonder what took so long for them to connect. But then, of course, they immediately remember. Can Linh and Bao find love in the midst of feuding families and complicated histories?

This is really lush❤️ There's a cute little love story at the heart of it, but what I really loved was the insight into Vietnamese culture/food. Looovely stuff🙌

Has anyone else been so stressed out the last few days that they're having trouble reading? I've sat down with this book a dozen times and have still only made it 20 pages in. 😕

Reading is supposed to be my escape from all of this...

Kayla.Adriena I feel like that all the time Gondor Girl! A lot of people read to relax but I can't read unless I AM relaxed. Otherwise I just read the same sentence over and over. When I feel like this I try to do another activity like a puzzle, going outside, watch a favorite movie that I've seen a million times. Anyway you are not alone! 2y
GondorGirl @Kayla.Adriena I've been playing farm Sim video games. They're super low stress and repetitive, which makes them ideal for zoning out to. 2y
LiteraryinPA I relate too! I feel like I want to read for comfort but sometimes can‘t focus even if I have time. It‘s frustrating! 2y
themonaisa So relieved to hear I‘m not the only one!! It‘s been really hard to get through any books these past 2-3 weeks; I‘ve tried switching books, thinking it was just the content, but nope! It‘s the ✨endless stress✨ *sigh!* We‘ll get through this soon! Sending you all strength! (edited) 2y

Starting my final #LMPBC book for this round! This one looks cute, so it should be a pretty quick read. My goal is to have it in the mail by the end of the week.

Realized that I never posted a review on this #LMPBC book. It was a sweet YA play on Romeo and Juliet, with two kids from rivalling family restaurants. I liked the insight into vietnamese food and culture 🍚🇻🇳

Two pho restaurants, two families at odds, two teens who think their parents are being ridiculous and decide to put the past behind them as they try to be true to themselves and their own hopes and dreams. A fun YA story that touches on immigration, culture, shared history, tradition, family and friendship.

I am really surprised by the depth of this one! It portrays incredibly well how the children of immigrants experience confusion, guilt and pressure when choosing their own paths that often do not match their parents' expectations or values. Or how it feels to be brought up in a very different way than most of your friends.
Totally hits home and it feels very universal.

A modern day retelling of Romeo and Juliet but with two children of Vietnamese immigrants with rival restaurants?? Honestly, I kind of just bought this for the food descriptions (I was not disappointed). This was a very cute read with good characters and plot. It was especially good for a debut novel (I never would have guessed!). 4⭐️

Bao and Linh are from feuding families. Both sets of parents left Vietnam and only want their best for their children. They own competing restaurants but a chance encounter leads them both to wonder what took them both so long to connect.
This is a smart, current rom-com that delves into family histories.
Lots of delicious sounding food described in the book so don‘t read it if you are hungry!
My only negative thing to point out is the pacing.

All‘s fair in love, war and noodles! Heard some great things about this book. Sat in the garden with iced water and soaking up some 32c sun rays (in the shade of course 🌴)

It‘s a charming story. I loved the families of these two characters. A perfect read for a cold Sunday afternoon. (And now I want someone to take me to eat pho who knows what to order.) #24in48
