This was my first Rom Com book and I thoroughly enjoyed it !!! There‘s a small sub plot that keeps the story engaging and all the characters are lovable. It made me want to move to a quaint English village and open a bookstore (: The story was relatable to today‘s culture but not in an annoying way and the romance aspect was believable (one of my biggest issues with romance).
It's a cute book. Perfect for #LoveAthon23 @StayCurious @Clwojick I completed another bingo spot on #ISpyBingoFebruary (Large Breed Dog) being a Great Dane. @TheAromaofBooks Another spot on the #NSR23 @Nessavamusic with a holiday romance; Perfect for valentines Day.
February 20 #LoveAthonReadingPromps New in Town @StayCurious @Clwojick I am reading this one right now
This was a lush read for Valentines week. It was so cute.
It is set in Northumberland, which is one of my favourite places in the world.
I fell head over heels for Roane 😍 I did find Evie unbearable at times, though. You can tell that the author has tried to make Evie the hero of the story, but her meddling in other people's business and her oversharing of her personal life made her quite unlikeable. The real hero was Shadow, the dog.
Despite some instances of “throbbing” in her core, and silly self-imposed rules, Evie makes for a pleasant narrator in this story of a 30-something woman who attempts to shake up her life by letting a flat above a bookstore in Northern England. On day one she meets hotter than hot local farmer Roane, but these two don‘t actually get their throb on until well past page 200. I don‘t read a lot of straight-up romance, but this was mindless fun.
Evie doesn‘t receive a much deserved promotion, so she goes on holiday to Much Ado About Books bookstore in a quaint town in England. There she meets & falls for flirtatious farmer Roane. Will she leave her life in Chicago for Roane?
4/5. This book was cute. I liked the banter between the two. I enjoyed the plot. I liked Roane‘s character, but Evie‘s not so much. I also wish there was a little more spice. There was barely any.

Not the actual location featured in the book but cute nonetheless.
Has anyone been here?

This storyline is long and detailed in a way that shouldn't be packaged in a fun little package, absorbing me to the point of a 24 hour read. Loved it! Pet (dog) people, cross country romances, bookstore & pub setting closed door romance with an amazing cast of sub characters. This was a book that checked every box for me and the epilogue leaves it open for a spin-off with a match-making set up. So fun!
⭐️⭐️ American girl gets ghosted by internet dude. Seeking a distraction, girl decides to take an extended holiday where she‘ll run a bookshop in a small English town. Girl swears off guys, but quickly meets a sex-on-a-stick farmer who‘s immediately mad for her. Girl is *very* annoying and meddlesome. Typical rom-com conflicts ensue. Could‘ve been shorter.
Strong Jenny Colgan vibes. It was a cute bookish rom-com. If you like The Bookshop on the Corner you will enjoy this. 💕💕
This was just... OK for me. I am a lover of a good Rom Com, and the book started out with such great potential. However, when the big reveal happened, I lost all hope for Evie. Spent the last few pages wanting to scream at her "what is wrong with you?!"
Officially bailed on this one yesterday. I randomly put a hold on it at the library because the premise sounded good. She goes to England to run a bookshop for a month and reevaluate what she wants in life. She spends about 2% of her time in the bookshop and the rest of the time meddling in people‘s lives.
I got halfway through this book and said aloud, this book is boring. That‘s when I knew I had to quit! 🤷🏻♀️
Due to life circumstances Evie is renting an apartment above a bookstore and running a bookstore in England for 3 months to find herself. SIGN ME UP. (I wouldn‘t say no to the hot English guy either.) #AnyWayYouReadathon @eggbeater @midnightbookgirl.
Charming and cheesy, but the drama in the end of the story felt forced and flat...
