This is a collection of short stories and the title “Bizarre Stories“ does hit the spot. Well, we're talking about Olga Tokarczuk after all. Yes, those texts are all bizarre in their own ways, often they're even pretty disturbing. The whole book tends to have some Sci-Fi elements, since Tokarczuk is dealing with the questions of where our society is headed and what we're making out of it. ⬇

Jari-chan That she's so accurate makes the whole book even more uncomfortable. And therefore enormously read-worthy.

My top three books from this strange year: short story collection by O. Tokarczuk - Bizarne zgodbe (I can‘t find the English translation); controversial crime/mystery story by R. Galbraith - Troubled Blood; and rich (in every sense) historical novel by H.Mantel - The Mirror & the Light.
Happy reading in the new year 🥂🍾

A collection of ten short stories set in different time periods, thematically very diverse, but with one thing in common - the main characters are sensitive observers of the world around them. The stories are elegant, thoughtful and Olga Tokarczuk is undoubtedly my favorite writer (at least for now). Pure perfection in the form of short stories. English translation of the title could be Bizarre stories.

BarbaraBB Another good one by her? I really must try her again, I only read one but it might be my favorite book this year 4y
Simona @BarbaraBB Yes, you must‼️😘 She‘s a very interesting, versatile writer. What I admire the most is her sense for deep characterisation, even in the short stories, her understanding of archetypes and superb prose ... so yes, you really must try her again 😘 4y
