Snowflakes | Ruth Ware

When a barrier between truth and illusion grows stronger, a family’s trust crumbles in this arresting short story by the number one New York Times bestselling author of The Woman in Cabin 10.
Leah has spent her formative years isolated on a remote island with her family. But their quiet existence, far from the devastated mainland, is cracking. Father, sensing a coming threat, demands that a wall be built. As the stone blockade rises, Father’s paranoia escalates. So does Leah’s dread that the violence the family left behind has found its way to their sanctuary.
Ruth Ware’s Snowflakes is part of Hush, a collection of six stories, ranging from political mysteries to psychological thrillers, in which deception can be a matter of life and death. Each piece can be read or listened to in one truly chilling sitting.

This was an Amazon Original short story. Quite an intriguing but depressive short story. At 31 pages it was really too short to say it was really enjoyable. Would have liked more depth to the story. Got this free as part on my Prime Subscription.

7th book finished for #AuthorAMonth and that is where I need to leave it for this month as I have now finished all her books.

5th book finished for #BacklistReadathon

Definitely not my favorite Ware. Mental health issues and a sad, disturbing short story.
Listened to it while driving with hubby. His opinion—thankfully it was really short.
Moving on to The It Girl. #AuthorAMonth @Soubhiville #TBRtarot @CBee #ThingsInCommon @Clwojick #AwesomeApril @Andrew65 #BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

It‘s official….I‘m not a fan of Ruth Ware‘s writing. I thought I‘d give her one more shot but this short story at only 34 minutes was sooooo bad, soooo depressing & really heavy handed - I was ready to bail after the first 4 minutes. #AAM @Soubhiville I know you skipped Ware…good move 😁

squirrelbrain At least it was short! 🤣 2y
Soubhiville Ha, thanks for the warning I might have tried something that short. Lol. 2y
Ruthiella I have never cottoned to her either…and I‘ve read three of her novels. It‘s just that the premise always sounds so inviting and so many other people love her… 🙃 2y
Cinfhen Exactly @Ruthiella @squirrelbrain unfortunately even 34 minutes couldn‘t win me over @Soubhiville 😩 2y

Very good short dystopian story. A father and his children have escaped a war to an island and have managed to survive for 10 years separated from the world. But everything‘s about to change when they‘ve finally been discovered and helicopters land on the island, guns blazing. What happens next is what the story is really about. Very timely story. #authoramonth @Soubhiville

Two good quick audibles while doing some unwanted cleaning. These two are part of the Amazon Audible Hush Series. There are six all together by different authors. Have never read any books from Oyinkan Braithwaite before. I liked the Treasure audible.

A short story released as part of the Hush collection by Amazon. This one was pretty interesting. An unknown war has come to the world. A father and his 4 children escape to a remote island and live an isolated life, until the outside world starts to get a little too close. I liked the writing style and the voice of the eldest daughter as the narrator.

This 30 odd page short story is told from the perspective of Leah. Leah lives on an island with her siblings and Father as there is war on the mainland. They need to build a wall, and fast, war is getting ever closer.

And that's all you need to know.

This is part of the Hush collection. At time of posting this collection is available on Kindle Unlimited.

Overall Rating for the collection = 2¾⭐

SNOWFLAKES (tagged book) is my favorite of the six but I really wish it had been the longest of the collection because I wanted more. TREASURE has a timely message and SLOW BURNER was quite devious. BURIED was my least favorite and my 1st by this author...and probably my last. THE GIFT was a little too cryptic for me and LET HER BE was completely forgettable.

⭐⭐Probably my least favourite of all my Ruth Ware books. It just didn't have the thriller vibe which usually captivates me with her books. That being said, I was interested in the story enough to finish it. As the book was concluding I couldn't help but be saddened for the characters in this family and how their family unit had crumbled under their father's guidance.#snowflakes #ruthware #tea_sipping_bookworm #goodreads #litsy #bookstagram
