I love this series.
The cat here represents the philosopher. He observes and questions, sometimes destabilizing the other characters. This book is, to me, a fun way to witness human limitations in reasoning. It's not a book to learn about the Jewish religion, it's just a book that is taking place in a Jewish community, if you catch the nuance. It's full of wit, and I laughed quite a lot. It's a great and fun book if you like critical thinking.

3/5 ⭐. This book got very strange at times and jumped around a bit. Abraham got really annoying when they traveled to France. But I did enjoy the humor and the way the philosophical/religious themes were explored. #projectnew

The immediate reaction when someone leaves your house that it's because of a food-related issue is the most relatable Jewish thing I've ever read. 😂

LOL, I'm amused.

This has been on my radar since the English translation showed up at my library twelve years ago, and I wish I'd snatched it up back then because it's WONDERFUL. The rabbi's cat gains the power of speech and proceeds to lie his arse off, causing everyone around him to interrogate their world. It's the sort of religious fiction I like best: full of complicated questions, with a strong human component. #comicthon

My first stack of books for Women in Translation month. My library has a bunch of graphic novels by women that are translated into English. Two of these are Japanese, 1 Korean, and 1 French. #WITMonth

I really loved the cat's voice. It was such a rambly sort of story (which I enjoyed) and I loved the art.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk This is an animated movie on my To Watch List. 8y
Sace @TobeyTheScavengerMonk Oh wow. I didn't know there was an animated adaptation as well! Thanks! 8y

It has a cat who is a bad-ass philosopher/skeptic. What more could you want? Well I suppose at the end I was hoping it wasn't over yet. The graphic novel is the perfect format. The illustrations of the cat snuggling, rolling around, his catitude are perfect!

I've been curious about this author's work since he kept being mentioned in Stephanie Perkins' Isla and the Happily Ever After. I wanted to buy this but it's so expensive! Book Depository has more affordable copies. Has anyone else tried Joann Sfar?

Chachic @Angieville Really?! Maybe I should read that first. The bookstore didn't have that but will try to look for it on Book Depository. 8y
hollybally I like The Professors Daughter as well 8y
Chachic @hollybally Looks like I should find a copy of that then.😊 8y

It is fun to watch a cat ask sometimes irreverent, but thoughtful questions about religion. This was an enjoyable read and an odd, but kind of useful pairing with When Breath Becomes Air. This comic is my pick for the Panels #ReadHarder 2015 (going back in time) category of Originally Published in Europe. #24in48 #HSreadathon
