Utilizing the past catastrophes of Chicago to tell a modern day ghost story, genius. Well-developed characters and just the right amount of spookiness makes this a great October read.

Currie‘s writing comes off effortlessly but the story itself is a bit underwhelming. I was expecting something scary, but sadly, even for middle grade, Scritch Scratch is rather tame. Really, the best character is Chicago itself; reading about the city‘s spooky history was the highlight of this novel. As for the actual people characters and their storylines, there isn‘t much that sets them apart from other novels of its kind.
Is it a little weird to admit I found this middle grade ghost story to be absolutely delightful? Because I did! Super fun with just the write amount of adventure & spookiness. Drafted at the last minute to help her dad on one of his ghost tours of Chicago, Claire arrives home afterwards & discovers a ghost has tagged along. Who is it & what do they want? A good story that also tells readers a little about Chicago history. Fantastic autumn read.
My daughter is turning twelve next month; every time I pick out a new book to read, I keep expecting her to tell me she‘s too old to have Dad read to her. But she was piqued when I showed her my latest selection, Scritch Scratch. As long as she‘s down to ride, I‘m down to ride.
An enjoyable spooky, mystery story for fans of City of Ghosts and Small Spaces. The story about 12-yr old Claire, who is being haunted by a ghost, after she went on her father‘s ghost tour bus. The book includes some interesting local history of Chicago which made me Google-up the events. Fun, ghostly story with themes of family, friendship, & remembering the past. Check out the author‘s 1st book-The Peculiar Incident on Shady Street- just as fun.
#BookReport - Almost didn‘t do one because I read so many books this week! Finished 8 books. 5 were audiobooks.
#CurrentlyReading - 2 e-books. My hold for Battle Royal came in and I wanted to start it, even if it has nothing to do with Halloween type things. I‘m really liking Ophie‘s Ghost too.
#WeeklyForecast - where do I even begin? Hopefully I‘ll start these 2 and listen to a few more audiobooks.
Really liked this one. Middle grade horror hasn‘t been too scary for me so far. This one is about a ghost haunting Claire. She needs to figure out why he‘s haunting her and it doesn‘t help that her best friend has been “ditching” her lately for someone else. Claire has to deal with a ghost, 7th grade, and her friendships.

Spending my birthday reading and drinking some mulled apple cider
Decorated the house this morning for Halloween. Yesterday we did a corn maze and visited a mediocre vineyard. Was hoping to pick up some mums today, but that may have to wait until next week.
1. Yes! Can‘t wait. #TeamHendrix
2. Tagged. I‘m so excited to try reading middle grade horror. 🤞🏻🤞🏻 it isn‘t too scary.

Thanks @Texreader for the tag! #thoughtfulthursday @MoonWitch94
So since I finished it last night and it resonated so much I‘m saying Scritch Scratch (a MG book) as it had a little STEM, a lot of spooks and some history I did not know about Chicago - everyone should read it!
Spider is my creepy word ick!
Pretzel rolls and soup I‘m feeling a little under the weather.
I‘ll tag @Crazeedi and @Pageturner1
I absolutely loved this creepy read. The target audience is for ages 10-14, but it was perfect for me. Claire is a twelve-year-old into science and her dad runs a ghost tour around Chicago. When she is forced to help out, something follows her home and she is afraid. This book also has a lot of history of Chicago, but makes it fun instead of just history lessons. It also deals with adolescent friendships and trusting in family too. Five stars.
This is all over Twitter. And RL Stein even suggested it. So it must be good.
Anyone else get Nightbus vibes?
