Well here is the January “assignment“ list. For a month that actually was a low page-count for me, I did make decent progress. Books with one slash have been started but not yet completed. I'm still planning to read these, so we will see what happens when they get mixed in with the February pile. My TBR windowsill shelf is getting full!! 😂

This one was a borderline between straight romance and romantic suspense - when in the midst of a bitter divorce, Eli's soon-to-be-ex-wife is murdered, with Eli as the prime suspect. A year later, the case against him has been dropped, but the actual murderer's identity is unknown, meaning a cloud of guilt still follows Eli everywhere. He comes to stay in the old family home on Whiskey Beach, where he meets Abra, a jill-of-all-trades who should ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) have really annoyed me but actually didn't. Her free-spirit “be yourself“ attitude somehow actually came off as genuine so I ended up really liking her. Various other things happen at the old homeplace, including another murder, leaving Eli and Abra wondering how it's all connected. This wasn't on-the-edge-of-your-seat-are-they-all-going-to-die tension, but it did keep the story up-pace. This wasn't my favorite Roberts ever, but it's ⬇ (edited) 3y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) one I can see myself rereading at some point.

TheAromaofBooks @Librarybelle - in fairness, a lot of her books are like that. I can always depend on them for a relaxing getaway, but they don't necessarily stick with me after that!! 3y
Librarybelle So true, but she is absolutely perfect escape from reality reading! 3y
Roary47 This is gorgeous! 💛 3y
TheAromaofBooks @Librarybelle - She is totally my go-to for that! If I'm feeling a little stressed, I know I can count on her to give me likable characters and a happy ending, and her bibliography seems to be neverending! 3y

I'm in the midst of that first-of-the-year optimism where I start a bunch of books all at once! Besides the tagged book, which I will hopefully be finishing today, I'm working chapter-a-day on five(!) others... the #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead - The Story Girl (a reread for me, but it's been a really long time since I read it); I'm #WanderingThroughWutheringHeights with the #PemberLittens (and enjoying it more than I did in junior high haha); my ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) #BookSpin for the month is David Copperfield, another book I read many (many) years ago & don't remember at all - those Murdstones are dreadful!!; I just started Pinocchio for January's #ChildrensClassicRead - I've never read this one before but the chapters are quite short so I'm going 2 chapters/day; and I'm trying to work my way more diligently through my nonfiction TBR, which I tend to put off. My first NF read for the year has ⬇ 3y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) been on hold at the library for so long I didn't think it was ever going to arrive! It's Amelia Earhart's account of flying in the Friendship across the Atlantic - 20Hrs; 40Mins.

So I have a lot on my plate @Andrew65!!!

What are the rest of you #weekendreading? Feel free to share!!!

Daisey I'm also in the middle of so many readalongs! A few of the same as you listed and hoping to fit in The StoryGirl this month as well. 3y

Andrew65 Wow! A lot to have on the go. Happy reading. 3y
Crinoline_Laphroaig January Optimism. Besides my 2 #PemberLittens Readalongs I finished my #irl 📚 and 🍻 Club read of Ann Cleeves Raven Black then decided to seasonal read her 3y
Crinoline_Laphroaig And I still want to do Month by Month Reread of 3y
TheAromaofBooks @Daisey - Buddy reads really have helped me tackle some of the books on my list I've been reluctant to read (I never would have read Moby-Dick on my own!) and it's been a fun way to inspire me to reread old favorites that I never seem to make time for otherwise, like #PotteraDay. 3y
TheAromaofBooks @Crinoline_Laphroaig - I love the idea of reading seasonally!! 3y

It‘s 7.30am Saturday & I finished my book! Another enjoyable crime novel from Roberts, I particularly loved the setting of this. Not just a gorgeous old mansion, but one right on a Massachusetts beach. She has a gift for making her reader feel like they‘re there. Add in a lawyer accused of a murder he didn‘t commit, his free spirit housekeeper & a family mystery and it was perfect. #Scareathlon #TeamSlaughter 3points #PointsTotal-274

Liatrek This is one of my favorite of her stand alone books 😊 5y

Decamped to my library coz the hubby needed sleep, I‘m almost finished this book already. I love stormy seas, I love the smell, the electricity in the air, the spray on my face & the sound of the waves pounding the shore. I don‘t, however, love being in a boat ON that sea!🤢Keeping me company is an @LibrarianRyan original Halloween bookmark & a log fire video on YouTube. #Scareathlon #TeamSlaughter 1point #PointsTotal-271

inthegreensandblues Ha, I feel the same! I've never truly been on the sea yet - just lakes, rivers, and protected bays- but I'm a Dramamine gal for sure. Love that romance, tho. 😆 5y

Hallelujah my headache has eased enough for me to read print! Keeping on theme, both with my #Scareathlon #TeamSlaughter but also with Nora Roberts. The hubs also did another library run for me today & I think there‘s another in that bag. Brace yourselves for #libraryhaul pictures later🙌 Listening to a “Beach Sounds App” while reading this, very atmospheric 1point #PointsTotal-270

Clwojick I LOVEEEEE that your husband will do library runs for you! True Love! 5y

Next up after the darker story of Devils Lair, is a lighter mystery/thriller by the queen of that niche genre, Nora Roberts. Eli has run away to Bluff House at Whiskey Beach to escape the gossip & guilt after being accused of the murder of his wife-To-Be. Starting to get his life back, his peace doesn‘t last, an enemy is coming to ruin it all. #Scareathlon #TeamSlaughter 1point #PointsTotal-141

The next #libraryhaul book for this months #Scareathlon I‘ve always dismissed her novels as “romance” but it‘s a thriller just as much. Boston lawyer Eli Landon, retreats back to his grandmothers mansion,Bluff House, after being accused of the murder of his soon-to-Be-ex-Wife. There he meets Abra, housekeeper & yoga instructor who helps him clear his name. But someone is intent on destroying him totally. #TeamSlaughter 1point #PointsTotal-35

Clwojick I like that these books are a mix of the 2 genres. More mystery than romance, but a nice balance of them both. 5y

Landon discovers his soon to be ex-wife‘s body & is accused of murder. He loses his job & friends, but nothing adds up correctly. Book started slow; I almost bailed, but I‘m glad I didn‘t.

#rockinmay There was a phase I binge on Nora Roberts' romantic suspense books. I wasn't big on romance novels, these were the closest romance stories I could get into. She is one of America's bestselling authors and a #paperbackwriter with more than 200 novels under her name, including the pseudonym JD Robb.

tpixie She rights great characters, dialogues, and friendships. 8y
Cinfhen I've never read any of her work but I see her name/names everywhere 😗 8y
Bambolina_81 My Mum absolutely loves her books, I've yet to try them though. She has to carry a list of titles with her before she buys because there are so many! 8y
