31st October 1988 & four 12-year-old boys are trick-or-treating in London. As they knock on the final few doors before heading home, they hear the music of an ice-cream van playing 'Pop Goes the Weasel' in the distance but the chimes sound distorted. The friends dismiss it at first until they realise that the rusting ice-cream van is following them & the driver is a faceless shadow. They run for home but get split up & one of them goes missing.

OutsmartYourShelf October 2016 - almost 30 years later & the three surviving friends start having nightmares & waking visions where they are visited by the shadow, who warns them that he is coming for them all. The Ice Cream Man is back… and he‘s come for the ones that got away.

The reviews were very mixed on this one, but I surprisingly rather enjoyed it. Apart from Christmas, Halloween is my favourite holiday, 6mo

OutsmartYourShelf & I am drawn to anything set on Halloween or thereabouts. There are chapters from all 3 of the surviving friends but if there is a main character then it's Tom. The reader starts off wondering what's really going on but by midway through you are rooting for Tom & his friends. It's a fast-paced read & whilst it's not out & out scary, it's certainly menacing. 6mo

OutsmartYourShelf I love it when an author takes something as innocuous as an ice-cream van & twists it into something evil. 4🌟

TWs: domestic violence, death of a child, kidnapping, violence, strong language.
