TW: Sexual abuse, clergy sexual abuse, alcoholism
In 2015, activist Gemma Hickey walked across Newfoundland to raise funds awareness for Pathways, an organization dedicated to helping survivors of clergy abuse in the province. Long stretches of solo walking provoked introspection and discovery on faith, healing, and identity. Later, they would become the first in Canada to receive a non-gendered passport. This is Gemma's story in snippets. 👇
TheKidUpstairs Stories of their childhood, faith, family love, family trouble, their own abuse at the hands of a trusted clergyman, and their own loves and discoveries are interspersed with takes from the walk. Their love for Newfoundland and it's people shines through. #ReadCanada #NewfoundlandandLabrador @Book_Fiend_Melissa 4y
MsMelissa You‘re doing well with the challenge so far! I‘ve only read one of my books to date. 4y
TheKidUpstairs @Book_Fiend_Melissa that's right on pace! I haven't been actively trying to fulfill the challenge, it just happens that the last couple books I've been drawn too have been set in Canada. I'm reading one from Ontario now 4y
