I think this is a great book. It has beautiful colorful illustrations that show great emotion. This book would send a powerful message to students about thinking before we speak, and how making fun of someone's name can make them feel.

This reminds me of what it was like when a substitute teacher said your name wrong, the entire class would laugh. This can be very hurtful to a young child as our names are a big part of who we are. This book does a great job of explaining that feeling.

I may use this in the beginning of the year so the kids can tell everyone about their name and what it means

I scored points at a trivia game at work today for knowing the name of this "classic children‘s book that shares the name of a fall flower."
Got extra points because I knew Kevin Henkes wrote it. ?

ALA Award Winner. This book is about a young mouse who's name is Chrysanthemum. She loves her name at first, until she goes to school. The kids in her class tease her every day and make her feel horrible for being named after a flower. She wishes she could change her name so much to something “normal“. One day she meets the new music teacher, who is also named after a flower. The children are stunned by this and they all learn to love her name.

This book is about a young mouse and her name is Chrysanthemum she is named after a beautiful flower. She loves her sweet name her parents gave her until one day her classmates start teasing and making fun of her name. They think it is silly to be named after a flower but in the end she learns just how special her name really is.

This book is a great book to read to teach students to have confidence within themselves. It shows students that everyone is different and they should be proud of who they are no matter what.

As the mouse starts school she is then bullied by the other mice because of her unique name. Her parents try to explain that the uniqueness of her name is beautiful, but that does not heal her hurting heart. And when she was old enough to appreciate it, chrysanthemum loved her name. She loved the way it sounded when her mother woke her up.

This picture book was my all time favorite in elementary school! I‘ve even gotten to share it with my PDS placements. Chrysanthemum is a funny, school story about self-esteem and acceptance. I found it relatable as I have a very different name and felt embarrassed growing up. This helped me learn to celebrate myself and uniqueness.

This fiction picture book meant a lot to me when I first learned how to write my name. I was always the last to finish my name in Kindergarten and felt so bad about it often that my name wasn‘t like others. My kindergarten teacher Ms. Powell read this one day to me in our reading center and I loved it ever since💕 It‘s about a little mouse who too has a long name and learns to love it it‘s uniquess

The genre of this book is RF. We read this book the first week of school because it shows how behavior expectations should be. Chrysanthemum has a long name and is teased for it but read to find out how the teasing stopped. This book is a great S for the first week of school.

Used bookstore haul! 95% of my reading has been library ebook loans the last few years so it's been awhile since I had the pleasure of bringing home a fresh stack of books.

Chrysanthemum was written by Kevin Henkes and was one of my favorite books as a child! This book won the ALA Notable Children‘s book award in 1991 and focuses on the importance of being nice to others and being proud to be who you are!

Chrysanthemum by Kevin Kenkes is listed as Modern Fantasy (F). This book is a great story about a little girl who was given a unique name, which she loved until she went to school was was made fun of by the other students. This book will help the students that are bullied or mad fun of because of a difference they can't help. This book can be used as a IR, SR, and PR amongst students.
