A fun start to a YA series about a teen who has always known she was destined to go to space and save the world. It‘s also one of my #readyourkindle books from last month.

Yes, I think I'll bail on this because not only do I dislike the audio narrator, but I also just don't like the writing style.
This was one of my September #Roll100 picks from @PuddleJumper
Debating if I'll have to shelve this until I have time and drive to read a physical or digital copy because the audio narrator is actively annoying me so far.
This was an action packed sci-fi adventure full of great queer characters and interesting world-building. While the stakes were high, I did have some trouble staying invested in the story - it took me a while to get through because it wasn't a book I would hurry to pick back up. But by the end I was fully committed to the characters' mission and will most likely continue the series

The plot of this book is really fun—the clone of an alien heroine has been hidden on Earth and, once retrieved by her space army, tries to figure out how to live up to the legacy of her predecessor, while fighting a genocidal enemy. Unfortunately it felt really dumbed-down and the dialogue was too on the nose, especially the other Earth kids. The space battle near the end was great but I don‘t actually understand how they defeated the Big Bad.
I adore the Anders nonfiction, but struggled through this one. This book is classic YA - big stakes, impulsive decisions, feelings forward - but more queer and in space. Love the setting, the author clearly had fun with the worldbuilding. But it got info-dumpy. Unevenly paced and I had trouble connecting to the characters. But there's much to enjoy and I'm glad it was written - I want more queer and female-forward sci-fi books in the world!

Really fun. This was my first book by this author and I‘ll go back for more. A bit like Becky chambers in terms of the inclusivity the galaxy has in this sci fi universe but really plot driven and action packed. Excited to read the next 2. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Charlie Jan Anders orchestrates an entertaining epic space opera that offers the reader a contemporary heroine that is easy to relate to and understand, largely due to the effective use of similes that convey complex information.

Giving it my best Ai Weiwei
This fun YA space opera, with a diverse cast of characters, was nominated for the 2022 Lodestar (Hugo YA) award. #hugoawards #hugo2022
The plot was just so-so, but what made this a pick for me was the outstanding narration by Hynden Walch, who really brought out the characters' personalities.

It‘s been a tough couple of months, but I‘m excited for the books I‘m planning to read this month!

March #roll100
This was a fast, action-packed YA sci-fi. Very enjoyable!
(unrelated picture of crocuses in my garden because it's snowing again today and just look at that cheerful yellow)
I managed to read an awful lot from my March #BookSpinbingo board, without reading my #BookSpin or #doublespin or getting a bingo... #skills
Excited for April's numbers tomorrow!
@TheAromaofBooks
March #roll100 numbers are up! Thanks @PuddleJumper!
5 - Victories Greater than Death (extra pleased this came up, cause I'm using it for #fourfoursin22 as well)
28 - Truthwitch... On my tbr long enough I'd honestly forgotten about it, so looking forward to finally reading it!
Still working on one each from Jan and Feb, too, but I'll get there.
Love love LOVE it, can‘t wait for the next one to come out. Found family, diversity, and the concept of The Shapers and how they influenced the universe is fascinating.
As expected, this is a delightful story & this space adventure filled with friendship, compassion (def. with a lowercase ‘c‘ 😂), hope, high stakes & cool tech was the perfect way to start the year. Leave it to Anders to seamlessly incorporate consent, introductions with pronouns, & empathy into a story about a girl, and a ragtag group of friends, who has to save the universe. Anders‘ YA debut is fantastic. I can‘t wait to read the sequel. 💜🚀✨
The house is quiet, not even the sun is up yet, but it‘s a new year and we‘re under a winter storm warning so yeah, it‘s the perfect time to pick my first book of 2022. Deciding between the sequel to The Wizard Hunters and the tagged book…and I think I have to go with Anders. I‘ve loved everything she‘s written and have no doubt this will be another great book.
Starting to think about my #newyearwhodis reading list... I have these three on hand already, so I'll be starting with one of them. Putting holds on a few others at the library today 😊
Thanks @sebrittainclark for such a great list, and @monalyisha for organizing everything! I can't wait to get started!
Currently reading. Enjoying the inclusive sci fi vibes.

An incredible out-of-this world take on the chosen one story about a teen girl cloned from a famous intergalactic hero taken to space to fulfill her destiny. Action packed and full of heart. I loved this so much. I especially recommend the audibook which is narrated by Hynden Walch (Princess Bubblegum, Starfire, etc) & be sure to listen to the end when she and Charlie Jane Anders interview each other & generally fangirl together.
5 stars / ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I‘m coming back to this, because the story seems like it will be really cool - but it‘s going to have to be a paper copy rather than audio. I wasn‘t loving the narration, but hoped if I stuck with it I would get sucked into the story enough. Got to ch. 12 where we meet the main enemy, and the narrator made him sound like a 10 year old bully on a playground, gloating after he threw dirt at another kid or something. Didn‘t fit with the scene AT ALL
Spent the morning #audiocooking to make some food for a picnic with @LittleMouse5708 and our families this afternoon.
I'm enjoying this story so far, but not sold on the audiobook narrator so I will probably switch over to print.
I've never been so happy to live in a basement apparently. Hiding from the heatwave and reading this
1. Probably Ace of Spaces or Victories Greater Than Death
2. Apple: (Skin to the Core) by Eric Gansworth
3. I'm currently reading Jonny Appleseed by Joshua Whitehead and loved Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger last year and hope to read more from both of them (just realized I misread this one as queer Indigenous too but I'm sticking with it)

Oh my gosh, a huge starry-eyed THANK YOU to Charlie Jane Anders for this book mail! I cannot wait to read this. 🤩 The cover is so amazing and purpletastic, the photo doesn't do it justice. (Our 11yo says they're stealing the stickers, and will be reading the book after me. 😅) I've loved everything Anders has written, and I'm sure this adventure-filled space opera will be fantastic, too.
I really have to give it to Charlie Jane Anders for creating such a popping sci-fi adventure. I love the commentary on identity and destiny that Tina has to decide who she wants to be on her own terms. Listening to Charlie Jane Anders in conversation with Holly Black to celebrate the release of the tagged book, her YA debut. Such a fun conversation and Anders‘ enthusiasm and excitement is palpable. Best of all? Black says this book is the YA space opera she‘s been waiting for. Can‘t think of a better rec than that!!! Excited to read it when my copy shows up!!! 👽 🚀 🌍
5/5
Tina was literally born for great things. She's the clone of a great alien warrior. But when she finally gets picked up by a spaceship, it's not quite the futuristic experience she expected.
I think this is the best YA science fiction I've read in a really long time. I won't spoil the ending, but it invokes one of my favorite tropes in science fiction, and I can't wait to see where the series goes next.

Tina is the teen clone of a galactic hero—hidden on earth in a human body, destined to save the universe. Charlie Jane Anders‘ YA debut, the first in the Unstoppable Series, is full of action and full of heart. Fans of Becky Chambers will love the crew of the HMSS Indomitable, the book‘s diverse representation, pronoun introductions, and range of alien life. My only complaint is the lightning-quick pace—kids these metacycles, they grow up so fast!
This is so cool—very, very excited about this!!! Charlie has been talking bout this project a while and it‘s great to see the official announcement. She‘s such a wonderful writer—love, love, love All the Birds in the Sky and The City in the Middle of the Night—with so many interesting things to say and great stories to tell. Looking forward to her YA debut. 2021 can‘t get here fast enough!
