The Portable Nietzsche
The Portable Nietzsche | Friedrich Nietzsche
The works of Friedrich Nietzsche have fascinated readers around the world ever since the publication of his first book more than a hundred years ago. As Walter Kaufmann, one of the worlds leading authorities on Nietzsche, notes in his introduction, Few writers in any age were so full of ideas, and few writers have been so consistently misinterpreted. The Portable Nietzsche includes Kaufmanns definitive translations of the complete and unabridged texts of Nietzsches four major works: Twilight of the Idols, The Antichrist, Nietzsche Contra Wagner and Thus Spoke Zarathustra. In addition, Kaufmann brings together selections from his other books, notes, and letters, to give a full picture of Nietzsches development, versatility, and inexhaustibility. In this volume, one may very conveniently have a rich review of one of the most sensitive, passionate, and misunderstood writers in Western, or any, literature. Newsweek

I adore my new tote and the wonderful @Deifio handily sent a translation along with it .... “A book you love you do not lend/borrow, you need to own it” ♥️

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.
~ Nietzsche

My motto: don‘t be afraid to dance.

The thought of suicide is a great consolation: by means of it one gets through many a dark night.

They did reach me before Halloween @LeahBergen I‘m just really behind on my posting.

Thank you for thinking of me. I love the pictures. I wonder if they are old or posed?

#wonderouswednesday
1. My new commute in Silverdale, WA (vs. the previous one in DC that consisted of bumper-to-bumper traffic). Plus I love seeing Olympic NP as I drive.
2. Hike/just be outdoors
3. I collect quotes, so I don‘t have just one fave. But this is one I love: “Those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.” Nietzsche
4. Who wants to play? Consider yourself tagged! 👋🏻

#WINTERPOST people who have been extremely patient with my lack of postcard sending: I am starting to send them now. About half so far.

Thanks for not burning me at the stake for being an entire month late; February was much more difficult than previously estimated. Definitely on the rise now though.

I know I used this last month but I think it‘s a good reminder. There are days I think drastic action is needed and who cares about collateral damage but that‘s not the way to improve our political climate. We can fight back without threatening lives. Be smarter, be more conniving, fight dirty, run someone out of a public place by making them uncomfortable, but don‘t threaten their lives. Be better.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Protest, right to free speech, but yes...threats of violence are still illegal. 6y
lynneamch Agreed. I admit I have a hard time not resorting to retaliatory name-calling. But, that's not helpful, either, even though it is a long way from violence. Trying to remind myself #wegohigh 6y

#QuotsyFeb18 Day 26: This is definitely a #voice I shall welcome hearing, despite its “creeping” nature. Nietzsche is one author I hope to get to in my lifetime. But perhaps, not now. Not yet. ;)

Finally! I considered dnf'ing this several times, but a friend of mine loves Nietzsche, and I wanted to understand why. I don't love Nietzsche - er disagree on just about anything (except both of us being anti anti-semitism) and I think he rants more than explain. If he was my student he would get a lot of feedback like "don't just say This or that is stupid/evil/corrupt. Explain, elaborate and give examples!"

Estate sale haul! This haul, all from the same estate, is a perfect example of what I mean when I call myself an eclectic hedge reader! 😝 I have never just sat down and read Nietzsche; I have read very long snippets, quotes and know his history, but I've never just sat down and READ Nietzsche. Looking forward to this.
