Welt Online

I went into it expecting nothing and it was still disappointing. The story was dragging on for the first 250 pages with nothing happening and then picked up in the last 50 pages.

I couldn't care about the characters. I thought there'd be more magical elements or some sort of explanation for the magic diary. But that was just ignored. The whole book felt like it was trying to delve into some deeper meaning but completely failed.

This reads a bit like a fairy tale (evil aunt, ruined castle, magic diary, mysterious neighbor, secret garden) but IMO it doesn't lean in to that enough so that it's hard to place it in a genre box. Often that's intriguing but not this time. This wasn't bad but it certainly wasn't special.

Tamara and her mother must relocate to the countryside and the mystery, complete with a castle, a nun, a villain, family secrets, and a dash of magical realism, ensues.

I liked the concept of this riches to rags story with a touch of Irish magical realism, but it just took too long for the story to gel. After finishing I didn‘t care about some characters who received a pile of attention while her diary (the magic piece) didn‘t get enough focus.

Hands down, my favourite Cecilia Ahern book. Always has been my favourite author, and her books are nothing short of magic. This book in particular is phenomenally filled to the brim with magic.

Tamara Goodwin, spoiled and ignorant uncovers shocking secrets with the help of a peculiar book about her past after the death of her father whom she barely knew. This book is an exciting tale of young girl who is forced into penury with a surprise awaiting at the corner of each page. A must read for fiction-drama lovers.

So, I've read Cecelia Ahern before. Generally, I like her style. Usually an easy read with likeable characters and lots of emotion. The Book of Tomorrow checks all of these boxes - family tragedy, several.... central character trying to connect with family.... lush surroundings.... a mystery to uncover....

It's alright, but not as well crafted as some of her others.

Have now passed on to my friend for her holiday read. Share the book love!

I'm not sure if this is just a thing that I do but it seems like whenever I listen to an audio book read by someone with an accent I will think in that accent for a little while after I listen to it. I've tired to explain this to people that don't listen to audio books but they just don't understand.

Does anyone else do this?

silentrequiem Hell, I do this when I'm reading a book. I read something years ago that took place on the stets of London in Victorian times and I was thinking in thieves cant for days. 8y

Ein leeres Tagebuch was dir heute schreibt was morgen geschieht.

After some deep reads, I decided to coast a little. I picked this book because it promised magic. Ahearn writes well, and the plot was compelling enough to keep me going, but there was kind of a major thing that was never explained. Which really bugged me. Hence the so-so rating.
