From Terry Pratchett's co-author on the Long Earth books comes the ultimate disaster novel - the world is drowning and there is nowhere left on earth to go. Next year. Sea levels begin to rise. The change is far more rapid than any climate change predictions; metres a year. Within two years London, only 15 metres above the sea, is drowned. New York follows, the Pope gives his last address from the Vatican, Mecca disappears beneath the waves. Where is all the water coming from? Scientists estimate that the earth was formed with seas 30 times in volume their current levels. Most of that water was burnt off by the sun but some was locked in the earth's mantle. For the tip of Everest to disappear beneath the waters would require the seas to triple their volume. That amount of water is still much less than 1% of the earth's volume. And somehow it is being released. The world is drowning. The biblical flood has returned. And the rate of increase is building all the time. Mankind is on the run, heading for high ground. Nuclear submarines prowl through clouds of corpses rising from drowned cities, populations are decimated and finally the dreadful truth is known. Before 50 years have passed there will be nowhere left to run. FLOOD tells the story of mankind's final years on earth. The stories of a small group of people caught up in the struggle to survive are woven into a tale of unimaginable global disaster. And the hope offered for a unlucky few by a second great ark ...

I‘m sure you‘ve all heard about the floods near Vancouver, BC. Here is a shot of it from Monday afternoon. Waters are receding and the Canadian army are on their way to help with pumping out the water. And yes the Trans-Canada highway is somewhere under the water.

SolaRaynor Oh no! Yikes!! 3y
Avanders 😮 hope everyone is ok! 3y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Oh no!! The highway or the train? I‘m sorry, never been, but would love this see this area 3y

JanuarieTimewalker13 Ay, yi, yi. I think about all the little critters that must have drowned. Terrible 3y
melissajayne @Avanders everyone is ok; the chickens and turkeys and some cows not so much. The damage is to be in the billions. 3y
melissajayne @JanuarieTimewalker13 it is terrible but fortunately no human deaths, as far as I am aware of on Sumas Prairie. 3y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Yes. I worry about the beings that can‘t cry out for help. 3y

I finished this quite sometime ago. Yet it is still haunts me a bit not that it was not without its flaws, but the predictive climate change conditions that were occuring seem very acurate today. Especially at the time the hurricanes were blowing. So i kept putting off this review , its worth reading, its depressing but hope in that in the real world we will wake up in time. Although the time now for the earth is getting crucial.

I finished my last book for #ERMadLibs challenge just in time, as the #EclecticReadathon was coming to a close. 🎉

There is a lot going on in this book... it's like what would happen if climate change happened at a super accelerated pace. The writing is strong and it seems like a whole lot o research when in to this story. I will read the sequel!

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

EclecticReaders Yay on finishing your Mad Lib!! Thanks for participating! 7y
sprainedbrain @EclecticReaders it was fun! Can't wait to see what sort of silly story these titles make. 7y
monkeygirlsmama Great list! Yay for finishing. 😺 7y

Finally starting my very last book for #ERMadlibs reading challenge... and I'm going to have to push to get it read before the #EclecticReadathon this weekend!

Ruri_kaichou Whoo! I still have 2 categories to complete and none of the books I'm currently reading fit either of them 😳 8y
sprainedbrain @Ruri_kaichou uh oh! Do you know if we can finish up during the readathon, or if they are supposed to be done before it starts? Maybe you can find some shorter books for your last two! 😃 (edited) 8y
Ruri_kaichou You have through the Readathon to finish up you madlibs. We thought it would be a fun way to wrap up the MadLibs with one last push to get through them 😃 8y

It took me a long time to finish this one between life being busy and the subject hitting a little too close to being possible. But it was a really great near future apocalypse story!

Also, Leia will sit on any book the minute you put it down!

Chelsibeau She's so sweet! My dog sits on my books too because she knows I will have to touch her, and thus she will get attention, if I want to continue reading. 8y
annkuch13 @Chelsibeau Aww! Yeah they've definitely figured out how to make us pay attention to them! 8y
ReadingEnvy Oh I've wondered about this one! 8y

annkuch13 @chapter_fifty2017 Yeah! I had the same issue. Really good but just didn't have the drive to pick it up a lot. I think the plot in the end is definitely worth sticking with it though. 8y
