Yesterday‘s library haul. I just cannot help myself! As the saying goes, too many books, too little time.😀 I do plan to rest & read this weekend after this exhausting week-no errands. #nunlit

Lots of geeky writerly talk in this Toronto festival conversation between Randy Boyagoda and Gil Adamson. Very satisfying to listen to. BTW, many events are recorded and available for later viewing, if you are interested. Next up this evening: Annabel Lyon at Starfest. 😊
Of the novels shortlisted for the Giller Prize, this is my favourite. Literary, lush, evocative of time, place and character I enjoyed this one the most. I know that's not what necessarily piques the judges' choice, but for me it definitely does!

I‘m sorry to say I‘m going to have to call it on my #DoubleSpin. Interesting premise, but I am just not feeling the writing style, so it‘s a DNF, at least for now. Perhaps it‘s a timing thing and it will come out of #hibernation when the time is right.
Remind me @TheAromaofBooks do DNF‘s still count towards a #BookSpinBingo?
Also I‘m now on the lookout for another #Alberta book for #ReadCanada if anyone has a recommendation.
Set in the mountains around Banff, Alberta, this literary historical novel has the propulsion and atmosphere of a western. My full review and Giller prediction is here: https://lindypratch.blogspot.com/2020/08/ridgerunner-by-gil-adamson.html?m=1 #shadowgiller #canlit #CanadianAuthour
How beautiful to watch weather work at a distance, without the slightest need to decide what that weather would mean to you. Rain, snow, lightning, it was happening to someone else.

But a small town is a living engine run on talk, innumerable bees grumbling in their paper cells. Jack heard it everywhere he went. Gossip, opinionation, conjecture, speculation, debate.
Supper after an afternoon of drinking too much mead and Fin du Monde ale. And a book, of course.
LOVED this totally unexpected but also totally welcome sequel to Adamson‘s previous novel, The Outlander. Now I want to read that one again. Loved the sense of place and the return of the characters, and the thrilling story they were involved in.
#ReadCanada challenge: Alberta (set in Banff and Lake Louise and environs)
