The past returns to haunt Chief Inspector Alan Banks in this harrowing novel of suspense from New York Times bestselling author Peter Robinson.There are human bones, buried in an open field, the remains of a lost teenaged boy whose disappearance devastated a community more than thirty-five-years ago and scarred a guilt-ridden friend forever A long-hidden horror has been unearthed, dragging a tormented policeman into a past he could never truly forget no matter how desperately he tried. A heinous crime that occurred too close to home still has its grip on Chief Inspector Alan Banks and it s leading him into a dark place where evil still dwells. Because the secrets that doomed young Graham Marshall back in 1965 remain alive and lethal, and disturbing them could cost Banks much more than he ever imagined. Master of suspense Peter Robinson once again delves into the human psyche to reveal what leads some to commit murder in this compelling, unforgettable thriller."

There is just something so great about reading a long series, getting to know the people, and then just return to the same place. Comforting! ❤️

Branwen I feel the same way! 😀💕📚 4y

Went to the library. Only walked past the mystery and thriller books. Quite excited about these books. Varied and super interesting looking books. Now I‘m almost regretting my super social long midsummer weekend 🤣

Andrew65 Library? What‘s one of those? My memory isn‘t good enough! 4y
Tove_Reads @andrew65 Back in ancient times people were allowed to go into a building called library to borrow whatever books they wanted and read them, free of charge. I had the chance of reliving this ancient tradition. I think the book at the top left has something to do with this 🤔 (edited) 4y
Butterfinger @Andrew65 @Tove_Reads thanks for the chuckle. 😆 4y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads 😂 Indeed it does. All shops now open from last Monday but still no news on libraries. If shops can open surely libraries can, can easily put in social distancing in the libraries. Book shops open. Libraries not. 😡 @Butterfinger 4y
Andrew65 Some great books. 4y

@TheAromaofBooks February #bookspin review

Trigger alert : Mentions rape, assault
.
'The summer that never was' is a pretty straightforward police procedural/crime book. I wouldn't classify it as a thriller because there wasn't really much element of surprise.
(Continued in the comment section)

olivia.ferz The story is about the investigation of 2 murders. One that takes place in the present tense and one that takes place in the past. It has our protagonist Inspector Banks simultaneously lending his expertise to both the investigations. 5y
olivia.ferz The story writing is very clean and engaging. The characters are well written and I was very well hooked into the book by the first 50 pages. But I was disappointed a little because the story was not what the blurb implied and I had been expecting something different. Also I felt as though the author chose the easy way out with the ending and kind of rushed through it. I could guess the ending halfway through the book. 5y

@TheAromaofBooks #bookspin

This was my February bookspin read😂. I couldn't finish it because my university exams kept me too occupied. But now with the quarantine and all the exams postponed, I guess I could finish this by the end of this week.

TheAromaofBooks Silver linings!! 😁 5y
olivia.ferz @TheAromaofBooks 🙌 Hopefully I'll finish in time for your April Bookspin!😊 5y

So this is my book 12 for #bookspin by @TheAromaofBooks

This book has been on my TBR for 3 years now I think. And I'm finally picking it up. It was completely covered in dust. I don't think I've even flipped through it after I bought it. 😂
I don't think I'll be able to finish it by the end of this month or the next because of my college final exams but here's hoping I push through!

TheAromaofBooks Even a little forward progress is still forward progress!! Good luck!! 5y

Pickpick

First Peter Robinson book first inspector Banks book. Plot centres around 2 investigations around teen deaths. One current one in the 60s. Very competently written. I've read quite a few police procedure novels and this is up there. Would like a few more descriptive metaphors but does the nuts and bolts really well. Will probably now start to read the series in order. A pick from me. A solid 7/10 👍🏻

KJHowe Peter is a great guy, great writer, great teacher and generous supporter of the writing community. The BBC series made from this series deviates a fair bit from the books but is very good. 6y

‘It‘s hard knowing what to allow and what not to. It‘s hard to know how much discipline to apply. If you don‘t give enough, then the child runs wild, and the parents get the blame. If you keep too strict control, he doesn‘t develop naturally and he blames you for screwing him up

Summer That Never Was | Peter Robinson

This fits #CruelSummer. This is book 13 in the Inspector Banks Series. In this one, the body of Inspector Banks' childhood friend (who disappeared when they were teenagers), is discovered one Summer, but some 40 years later! Could Inspector Banks be a murderer? #crimefiction.

Do love this detective series. This book has also been published under the title Close To Home.

#MarchIntoReading #day20 #aseasoninthetitle Three winters and three summers, but I could not find one autumn or spring. Not on any of my shelves, though I must admit, it wasn't the best of searches. But even if you do a google search for season in book title, it's summer & winter that crop up more often than not. I wonder why? Maybe they just sound more dramatic, the depths of winter, the scorching summer. Hmmm.🤔

DebinHawaii It was the same with my books- no spring or fall at all but lots of summer and some winter. 😀👍 8y

Love how he ties things together at the end, finding parallels between Graham & Luke. They were teenaged boys with 40 years between the disappearances but there were indeed comparisons. Each book includes Banks musical education.I'm on book 14 now and his taste in music evolves each time. Fav author
