I really enjoyed reading this book, I found myself wanting to read more. I have never read a graphica book all the way through before, I am glad this gave me this opportunity to do so. I can understand why children are wanting to read books like this, I would definitely recommend a graphica book to a student who is an uninterested or struggling reader because it was easy to understand and easy to read.
This book is appropriate for young readers because it shows different relationships within families. The book has great character development as well as graphica conventions such as sounds, sequence and perspectives. I think grades 2-4 would enjoy reading this book because the use of dialogue makes the book easy to follow along. The use of onomatopoeia is important in the book and the uses many perspectives to show the whole scene.
Lucy Knisley is a favorite graphic novelist of mine, and this one didn‘t disappoint! Although there were 2 characters I was annoyed with throughout the story, you‘re supposed to feel annoyed at them because that‘s how the young main character, Jen, feels. The dialogue and the illustrations showed the ups and downs of life on a farm when Jen‘s mom moves in with her boyfriend. I loved the afterword where Lucy explained it was based on real life!
Awesome coming of age graphic novel. I love how the situations are true to life and show how to deal with change. I also think this would be a great book for a child who just moved or is going through another big life change.
The texture of the pages is different and I like the way it feels. The legs are also thick and there is a boarder around each page. All of the illustrations follow a muted color scheme and the colors are all somewhat darker instead of being bright and colorful. The lines that outline the images are straight lines but not very harsh and perfect straight.
The illustrations of this book are very entertaining to look at and they do a great job of adding to the story line. It is about a little girl who‘s family just recently decided to get chickens. To her surprise, it will be her responsibility to care for the chickens every morning. One morning, she finds barn kittens which distracts her from setting up the coop. She doodles a lot about things going on in her life.
I liked the font in this graphica, I hadn‘t seen one with this same font and it was really fun to read
This graphica has a lot of small text bubbles that didn‘t have a lot of words in them so it seems like it would be easy to read for younger children like 2nd-3rd grade. I really loved all of the bright colors throughout this book
I dropped fifty bucks on an international Queens Public Library membership. Currently poking through the graphic novel section.
• 4/5 ⭐️ A really good book by Lucy Knisley. A Little Free Library pick from this summer, I read it in 3-4 days. I can't speed through #graphicnovels, I like to savor them and really soak up the illustrations. This one is cute and perfect for #middlegrade readers (and of course adults too!) It's about a girl named Jen who is learning how to cope with many changes in her young life, based on the author's own experiences. Recommended!! •
Cute little story so far about a girl named Jen adjusting to a new life in the country with her stepfamily. Won't take long to finish, knocked out 2 chapters today. Haven't read a graphic novel in several months. My first Lucy Knisley!!

Here are my pics for the “kids“ graphic novel #LMPBC. Let me known your opinions. I plan to get Stepping Stones regardless of if that is what I read for this.

Enjoy!
I love Lucy Knisley. This middle grade graphic novel is just as great as everything else she‘s done.
This story was cute, but the boyfriend showed some emotionally abusive behavior that was never addressed. 😕 He continually made comments to Jen that belittled, shamed, and hurt her. Not only did Jen‘s mom never stand up for her, but the boyfriend also never apologized for the things he said. 💔 😢 I wouldn‘t want kids reading this book to think that kind of behavior from adults is acceptable and they just need to deal with it. ⭐️⭐️
I love Lucy Knisley‘s work! This is her middle grade graphic novel, a story that finds a young girl living in a completely new environment and forced to make friends with her mom‘s boyfriend‘s daughters. But the friction between the very different girls soon becomes genuine friendship. It‘s sweet and fun, accompanied by Knisley‘s excellent illustrations!
I love how Lucy Knisley draws cats. They are such majestic, ridiculous floofs. That‘s not the point of this book, but still. The book goes on to make a nuanced point about family, but I felt bad for the main character, the rural life is hard, there is a distinct lack of bookstores and a preponderance of bugs.
I have loved all of Lucy Knisley's graphic memoirs, so I was excited to read her first graphic novel. Stepping Stones is an autobiographical graphic novel aimed at middle graders. I found it pretty sad, which I guess means Knisley portrayed the plight of being a young teen whose parents divorce and who moves from NYC upstate with her mom and her mom's boyfriend. ⭐⭐⭐ #ATY2020 (20th book (read for the challenge this year)) @BarbaraBB
