"And all of a sudden I understood. All of a sudden I got it. Why Rose was in the urn on the Mantlepiece. Why Dad found it too hard to sprinkle her into the sea. Why he gave her cake on birthdays, and why he fastened her seat belt, and why he hung a stocking by the urn on Christmas Eve. It was too hard to let go. He loved her too much to say goodbye."

Five stars. Amazing book.

Overall a so-so. David Tennant is a good narrator and I liked the idea, but the story moved slowly enough in audio that I borrowed the ebook from the library to finish it off.

6. I chose this one for a book challenge, an author the same age as me. I read a few reviews, so I was prepared for the 10 year old narrator. I really enjoyed this young point of view of a very traumatic event - 5 years after a terrorist attack that killed one of his sisters. Pitcher does a fantastic job, as evidence of all the awards this book received. Book #59 in 2021

An alright read. I found it dull in places but also very heartwarming in others. I did enjoy the David Tennant narrative of the book. I don't think I would have finished it otherwise. 📚

This book is SO good. If you get the audiobook David Tenant is the narrator. The story is raw and heartbreaking and uplifting and hopeful all rolled into one. I picked it up because I thought the title sounded interesting. I kept listening because the characters and the story are so compelling.

Lizabella28 I also loved Tennants narrative. I don't think I would have finished it without it 😀 (edited) 7y

"My sister Rose lives on the mantelpiece. Well some of her does. Three of her fingers, her right elbow and her knee cap are buried in a graveyard in London."

Great book from the point of view of a young boy who overcomes the terrible stereotype that surrounds Muslim being linked to terrorism, after his sister was killed in a terrorist attack. It tackles alcoholism, bullying, eating disorders and racism through a child's eyes. A such moving book❤️

This is much more than I expected. Interesting, enjoyable listen. P.s. David Tennant is the narrator.

This was seriously the sweetest, yet heartbreaking, book! Our protagonist Jamie is a 10-year-old boy who's trying to make sense of a cruel world that killed his sister (from terrorist attacks), which then caused his mother to leave, leaving him with an alcoholic father who can't get over his daughter's death. The POV was innocent and believable, and I cried like a baby during the last chapters! 😭 It's not just for kids!!!

This book filled my heart and broke it at the same time. It was an insightful look at dealing with grief and a family torn apart by tragedy, told from the point of view of someone who lives in the middle of that grief but doesn't quite understand it. The audiobooks was excellently narrated too.
