Dangerous Fortune
Dangerous Fortune | Ken Follett
"Political and amorous intrigues, cold-blooded murders and financial crises...old-fashioned entertainment!" -- "San Francisco Chronicle." In 1866, tragedy strikes at the exclusive Windfield School. A young student drowns in a mysterious accident involving a small circle of boys. The drowning and its aftermath initiates a spiraling circle of treachery that will span three decades and entwine many loves. . . From the exclusive men's club and brothels that cater to every dark desire of London's upper classes to the dazzling ballrooms and mahogany-paneled suites of the manipulators of the world's wealth, Ken Follett conjures up a stunning array of contrasts. This breathtaking novel portrays a family splintered by lust, bound by a shared legacy. . . men and women swept toward a perilous climax where greed, fed by the shocking truth of a boy's death, must be stopped, or not just one man's dreams, but those of a nation, will die. . . "Breathlessly plotted. . . relentlessly suspensenseful." -- "The New York Times." "Gripping, complex plot . . sexual intrigue. . . fascinating characters. . . you won't be able to put down this exciting page-turner!" -- "Lexington Herald-Leader."

Day 5 - #Danger #ReallyRandomFebruary

1866, tragedy strikes at the Windfield School. Drowning & its aftermath initiates a spiraling circle of treachery that will span 3 decades & entwine many lives. English families with power, money, greed & murder at their core. fast-paced & easy to sink into. characters are some you will love & hate. Looking forward to my next Follett book. recommend this to those who love historical fiction.

Crazeedi You know, now I have to get online and read synopses and see which ones I've read and which ones I havent. I've read several over the years, I just dont remember,🙄 5y
rwmg @Crazeedi I think we all have that problem, which is why it would be good if our stacks on Litsy were searchable. At the moment I rely on LT to check for that sort of thing, as I am sooooooo bad at remembering titles. 5y
Cathythoughts 👍🏻❤️ 5y
Crazeedi @rwmg you and me both!! And I try to read synopses and think if it sounds familiar. I dont seem to use LT as much as I do litsy and GR 5y

Andrew65 I‘m really enjoying this one, has a feel of Fall of Giants, book 1 in the Century Trilogy, about it and that is one of my favourite books. Love the review. @EadieB @Mdargusch @OrangeMooseReads @batsy @MoonWitch94 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 It does remind of the Century Trilogy! 6y

Started reading A Dangerous Fortune which I am reading along with @Tove_Reads @EadieB and @CoverToCoverGirl
Ken Follett really does know how to hook you in and tell a great story.
Others welcome to join us. We tend to read it at our own pace and discuss when we have all finished. Very informal. 😊👍

vinith Just started 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Wow! 🙌 I won‘t finish for at least a couple of days. Having 3 or 4 teeth taken out tomorrow 😱 so depends how that leaves me! 🥺 @Tove_Reads @CoverToCoverGirl @vinith (edited) 6y

Andrew65 Yey! Yey! Yey! One of my two libraries has just bought the ebook of The Last Girl. Imagine me doing the happy dance! https://vimeo.com/106468416 @Tove_Reads @EadieB So I need to read this within 21 days. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 Nice dancing! Ok I‘m ready whenever you guys are! 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB I‘ve been practising my dancing. 😂 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 We will have to read some of his suggestions. The Accident by Chris Pavone looks good! (edited) 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 I can tell that you have been practicing! Practice makes perfect! 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB I read and enjoyed Chris Pavone‘s first book, The Expats. I read that when we were reading books from countries around the world, a good one as a lot of the book took place in Luxembourg. @Tove_Reads (edited) 6y
Tove_Reads @andrew65 @EadieB Haven‘t read any of his books. 6y
Tove_Reads @Andrew65 @EadieB I‘m now 121 pages in and yet again a totally different Follett. He really is the master of storytelling! 6y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Interesting fact: He also began writing fiction during evenings and weekends as a hobby. Later, he said he began writing books when he needed extra money to fix his car, and the publisher's advance a fellow journalist had been paid for a thriller was the sum required for the repairs. @Andrew65 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Necessity is the mother of invention! 6y
Andrew65 I‘m doing it by audiobook so told I‘m 23.5% in page 143/608. Just at start of Chapter 4. Each of his books are just so different and he knows how to tell a good story. @Tove_Reads @EadieB 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 I‘m doing audio with book and I‘m on page 200. Enjoying this story. Love his characters! @Tove_Reads (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB 👏👏👏 Great progress. 6y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads With work I‘m still going. Will finish over the weekend. @EadieB (edited) 6y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Mickey Miranda and Augusta Pilaster were definitely the nastiest characters! What did you think about them? @Andrew65 6y
Tove_Reads @EadieB Dbags! I think that‘s Follett as his best when he writes about people we really dislike. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Loved Mickey Miranda‘s ending! Was he stupid or what! Shame Augusta didn‘t fall over the side with him! What horrible people they both were and don‘t get me started on Nora. @Tove_Reads 6y
EadieB @andrew65 @Tove_reads Mickey‘s ending was great! How could I forget about Nora. She was so nasty to her children! 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 There‘s a German TV series made in 2016 for A Dangerous Fortune. I‘m watching and reading subtitles. @Tove_Reads 6y

Page turner with great characters and interesting plot. "Follett peeks into the naughty world of late Victorian merchant bankers. In 1866, tragedy strikes the exclusive Windfield School when a young student drowns in a mysterious accident. His death and its aftermath initiate a spiraling circle of treachery that will span three decades and entwine many lives." Entertaining level: ????? #Sha2017
