How the Marquis Got His Coat Back
How the Marquis Got His Coat Back | Neil Gaiman
22 posts | 49 read | 32 to read
A Neverwhere short story from one of the brightest, most brilliant writers of our generation - the Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling author of the award-winning The Ocean At the End of the Lane. The coat. It was elegant. It was beautiful. It was so close that he could have reached out and touched it. And it was unquestionably his.

This short story was included in the version of the audiobook I borrowed from the library, and it was a pretty fun add-on adventure. #fantasy #shortstory

Today‘s #colormepretty is #greenandred!

Havoc I read a loooong time ago. It‘s a new spin on the teen werewolf story with...aliens? I‘m considering rereading it, but I remember liking the trilogy.

Masque of the Red Death is based off the short story by Edgar Allen Poe. A YA drama set in England during a plague, it was a decent read!

Gaiman wrote this short story a while after Neverwhere, but all the characters feel exactly the same.

MidnightBookGirl I'm fairly certain I gave you a copy The Masque of Red Death. 5y
MsRadioSilence @MidnightBookGirl you did, actually! I still have it. 5y

This was in the back of my Neverwhere book, and was written years after the OG story, but it feels like it was written right after Neverwhere. The Marquis is still the same character, and this is such a good little story. I hope some of the characters make a comeback in Neverwhere‘s sequel.

This was such a great extra to my audiobook! I loved having another story in the world of Neverwhere especially about the Marquis! He is such a mysterious character! I really want more books in this world to read! Though if my research is right, the next book in this series is due out September 2019! I can‘t wait!

Great little story. It was cool getting to see something that was happening during the events of Neverwhere. It was great getting to explore the world of Neverwhere a little deeper. I also liked the brief little introduction where Gaiman mentioned that there could be another Neverwhere novel in the future. That would be awesome.

I was not disappointed, yet again, by Neil Gaiman. The Marquis is a great character and this short story rounds him out a bit more. My favorite lines: “He tugged on it harder. It didn‘t move some more.” Some of Neil‘s word choices make me grin like a crazy writer.

tpixie Is this the marquis from neverwear? 7y
tpixie Oops I just read the bottom of the book 7y
Gdsjenny It is! And it‘s a great short story about him. 7y

Waterstone's. The building is wonderful. Looks much better from the other side, but we were so eager to get inside, we didn't take a picture.
The first floor houses children's, YA, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Comics and Graphic Novels. It was stuffy in there but we still explored and chatted about all the various books/series.
Drumroll: I bought three books in there. That's a lot, given that I tend to just browse and then get the eBook.

"It's not 'just a coat.' It is beautiful.
It is remarkable. It is unique. It has thirty pockets, seven of which are obvious, nineteen of which are hidden, and four of which are more or less impossible to find – even, on occasion, for me myself. It has magnificent sleeves, an imposing collar, and a slit up the back. It is the colour of a wet street at midnight, and, more important than any of these things, it has Style."

Quick read to fill a days commute. Never been a Gaiman fan, although I don't hate his stuff either. This little book didn't change that position, good to read some light fluff for a day though.

A delightful novella in the Neverwhere realm that I saved as a palate cleanser between books on #24in48 #readathon weekend. LOVE LOVE LOVE! An extra story about the Marquis? Yes, Please! This is included in the Neverwhere author's preferred text edition but I love this tiny standalone edition with its shiny coat on the cover 💖💕✨
