Before reading this I‘d never heard of parachutes, which are wealthy students from China who come to the US alone to attend private school. This book is about sexual assault and harassment which means it‘s not a fun story, but it was very readable. I‘m definitely going to read more of Kelly Yang.

This was devastating to read. Kelly Yang wrote a really powerful book, and I couldn't put the book down. Readers will feel a lot of things here.

Please look up the content and trigger warnings prior to reading this though. The book could be difficult for some to read.

Book 1 for 2021-inspiring & heart wrenching

A tale of two host sisters: their hopes and dreams, loves, and friendships. Also the tale of victim blaming and systemic issues with sexual assault reporting. I was mesmerized and wish we had a better world to offer these girls. #audiostitching

This book is a lovely combination of social justice and realistic expectations. Two Asian characters live opposite lives under the same roof while attending the same school. This book made me cry while also lighting a fire within my soul to FIGHT MORE for sexual assault survivors. This is my favorite book I've read in the year 2021. 5/22/21- 5/23/21

I devoured all 493 pages of this book in less than 24 hours. I couldn‘t help myself! Never heard about parachutes before (teenagers dropped off to live in private homes and study in the US while their wealthy parents remain in Asia). While the ending didn‘t exactly go how I hoped, i thought it was an amazing story. #booked2021 pick for #antiracism

Very good, triggers for sexual assault and harassment. It really got my blood boiling. When id get mad I had to remind myself the characters can‘t hear me!

A ya book about a world I had no prior knowledge of: teens from China who get sent to America for high school. The dynamics were interesting and totally new to me. It touched on some serious issues like sexual assault.

I picked these three sort of randomly off my shelves. These are all YA authors. I try to read books by authors of color frequently.

I haven‘t read Parachutes yet, but hope to get to it soon. I love When Dimple Met Rishi and I just finished Loveboat, Taipei, and thought it was good.

What an eye opener! I love when a book takes you by surprise. I felt compelled to read this because it was an ARC. I put off starting it for a bit. Was I wrong! The storyline is based around what “Parachute” students face when they attend schools in the Us. I‘m saddened to hear what some of them endure. This entire book was good, right down to the author‘s note at the end. I found this book to be a very fast rate, and I highly recommend it.
