Did you know #IntheBleakMidwinter was originally a poem by Christina Rosetti, titled "A Christmas Carol"?

My favourite version of this carol is from the AMAZING Gospel Christmas Project, solo by Chris Lowe. I couldn't find an audio of just Bleak Midwinter, but here's a stream of the entire concert:

Goblin Market, with 28 stanzas of varying lengths, is full of gothic images & symbols. The consistent rhyme scheme of the poem makes it feel light-hearted, but there are some very dark moments.

Rossetti, a 19th century poet, is most famed for Goblin Market & Remember & also for penning the lyrics to the Christmas carol: “In the Bleak Midwinter”.

The title got cut off, but it‘s the same as the first line.

In school, I had to write about Rossetti's poetry for a class project. Before Rossetti, I had no interest in poetry. I read Poe, but his poetry is dark & has an edge. I fell in love with her poetry, so much so that I begged my parents to buy me a few different editions. Happiness, love, humor but also sadness and grief sprinkle her poems. I'm still not a huge poetry reader, but I have a much better appreciation thanks to Rossetti. #35bookparty
