Ran across this poem about fall. I like the imagery and the memories it evokes. 🧡🍁💛🍂
Poetry feels like a lifeline of sorts as my attention span for reading has faltered this past year and it has become a challenge to finish any book despite its initial appeal. It was concerning at first to fail so miserably at all attempts to read just one book to the last page. Then poetry happened or re-happened or somehow felt more vital. Short distillations. Pretty words. Desperate truths. Impactful & powerful, but most importantly brief…👇🏽

In the Monongahela and Hocking Valleys.

Along the Appalachian chain,
I saw steel arms handling coal and iron,👇🏻
I enjoyed this little excerpt from Sandburg‘s longer poem: Potato Blossom Songs and Jigs. I like this guy so much because he always surprises you with lines you would never expect to fit together. Full poem below:

“I dabble in the blood and guts of the terrible.
I know the passionate seizure of beauty
And the marvelous rebellion of man at all signs reading ‘Keep Off.‘ “

What is an Emotion as apart from an Idea? When are a Concept and a Feeling identical? Nobody knows. When do the foregoing seemingly contrasted urges of blood and brain move into a confluence with an end result of Creative Art? They‘re working on it. If or when they filch this secret from the broad bosom of Mother Nature they will have solved the mystery of what for long has been termed Genius.
