What books have helped your anxiety? Not necessary self help or books about anxiety.

I actually have a hard time reading about anxiety because it tends to trigger the beginning of panic attacks. :/

JoeStalksBeck I had severe anxiety for years. Honestly , what got me out of it was being at the library. I went everyday. It was quiet and I could explore without the threat of crowds . I started studying astronomy. The night too was quiet and I could explore without crowds . Long story short , I did get my anxiety under control without meds :) 8y
Bibliogeekery I read whimsical middle readers books or listen to them on audiobook. I get swept into the relatively gentle stories and out of my anxiety brain 8y

This is our second fur baby, Kali!

She's still getting over her confusion and anxiety at being in a new place. My best friend, who fosters animals, is adopting a human baby and NC said they had too many pets in their home, so we adopted this lil' girl and she's super confused. 😿 She'll adjust -- I just need her to eat & drink!

zsuzsanna_reads Too many pets? How is that even possible 😉 8y
ChasingOm Haha, @zsuzsanna_reads, that's what SHE thought! But apparently Raleigh has laws about how many you can have in one household and 10 (4 dogs, 6 cats) was too many. 😿 8y

Not a happy text but in desperate need of Litsy ❤️ love right now!

I suffer with generalised anxiety disorder, and generally I manage quite well, but for the last week I've been on edge, unable to breathe (feels like it), struggling to sleep, non of my usual tricks are working , I got sent home from work today because I just cried. I feel like a weakling. I shouldn't feel like this.

Whatannareads I am living into a constant state of fear, my mums had breast cancer in 2012, luckily survived both. My gran then got and sick and my grandpa in 2013 and both died in 2015, November 2014 my cousin got diagnosed with leukaemia- still battling then my mum got her second diagnosis of breast cancer in 2016 the day after our joint birthday. 8y
BookishMarginalia A big hug💜 -- as someone who lives with chronic major depression, I understand and empathize. Those are a lot of traumatic losses piled up one upon another, which just makes preexisting anxiety worse. I can only say what I say to myself when I am down: be as kind to yourself as possible and remind yourself as often as needed that it will pass and that it will get better. 💜💜💜 8y
Bostonmomx2 @Bookishlychaot1c while I don't really have anxiety (sometimes mildly), I get the constant worry. I lost my sister in 2007 and my dad 18 months later. Every time my mom calls me I have a second of panic that it's bad news. Have you tried essential oils? I know people have some degree of relief with them, worth a try. 8y

Whatannareads Thank you @BookishMarginalia @Bostonmomx2 @TrishB @CrowCAH I don't usually post stuff like this but sometimes I just need to know I am not in my own in this cause you can get very lost inside your head! Yes I am going to have a long candle lit bath with herbal tea and some soothing music then some reading before bed x 8y
CrowCAH @Bookishlychaot1c whoops, didn't mean to delete my earlier comment, double tapped one too many times. So you get more 💖 from me! Sounds like a relaxing time in the tub and reading! 😊 8y
Sarahellen83 I get the breathing/tight chest and fell back into the smoking on and off since August so just trying to find other ways of getting my head round things as I'm not going back to that! Work will understand 💜 you just get yourself in a good place at your own pace and everything else will have to wait. Xx 8y
Whatannareads @Sarahellen83 yeah that's the worst bit the breathing thing, I seem to do ok for a while and then crash again! But like sam said when your in the caring profession sometime we aren't very good at looking after ourselves! I am currently going to give the mindspace app a try it has just 10 minute daily breathing exercises. X x (edited) 8y
Bostonmomx2 It's medical cases like this where I fully support the use of medicinal marijuana. 8y
