The Nature of Jade | Deb Caletti
post image
Mehso-so

I liked this book from the beginning, thought about DNFing in the middle, and ended up finishing it. I don‘t know what it is about Deb Caletti‘s books, but there is always something missing for me. I liked how honest the discussion around anxiety was, but didn‘t care for the romance or the dramatic second half.

Anybody else just happily going along and then realize it‘s Saturday and you forgot you have a bazillion book discussions on Sunday and you haven‘t touched those books? Oops. In my defense, this week was completely upended with kiddo‘s schedule so I lost track of the days, I was sick early in the week, and it‘s just been a tough time for me mentally.

Here‘s a cat picture for your trouble. #catsofLitsy #DannyBoy

SRWCF The cat picture makes it all worth while. There's a creature who knows how to enjoy life! 3y

I really liked this one. Not all of the doodles were meant to be ha-ha funny. And a lot of the humor is dark, but as someone with general/social anxiety I could relate to it a lot and enjoyed it. #BookSpinBingo #JoysOfJune

Yay!! Best day of the month — received my #cbbc #coffeebeanbookclub package! 👏🏽👏🏽 Thank you @Mommamanzi for the yummy coffee and that perfect to-go coffee mug! Love it!! 😍🥰😘♥️

In other news... I‘ve decided to wander into Kind of Coping territory. Maybe it came too soon after Brosh, but it feels ... well, not as good. Let‘s leave it at that for now... continuing through. 😁

BethM That mug is awesome! The tagged book I found more depressing than uplifting honestly. I was expecting something like Sarah scribbles but it‘s not the same. 4y
Avanders @BethM yeah... I‘m going to try a little longer and... if I don‘t finish it, say that‘s good enough. I think i‘m about halfway through... I am enjoying it a *little* more. 🤷🏽‍♀️ 4y

This has very subtle ‘Hatchet‘ and ‘Lord of the Flies‘ vibes going for it, but it also does not have any fae like I thought it did lol. It‘s intriguing as it more survival then it is spooky and has a mild pacing that can either bore one or entice them. The idea of the underground civilization was interesting in both good and bad ways.

Christopher_Tallon I'ma try it! 4y
Sweetkokoro @Christopher_Tallon Oh I‘m intrigued to see what you think. It was the complete opposite of what I thought it was going to be haha. 4y

A quick read and relatable for this reader, who has some social anxiety (probably worsened thanks to the pandemic) and a history of panic attacks. I was getting anxious just reading about some of the situations! Worth reading for non-anxious people especially.

I thought this would be better. There wasn't much of a story line
