Just finished listening to this fascinating audiobook- read by the author. The rich are different! Lady Anne Glenconner brings her autobiography to life. Rubbing elbows with the Royals , the aristocracy and the famous- Lady Glenconner has a bucketful of interesting stories, especially about her three decades as Lady in Waiting to Princess Margaret. Her life has not been without sorrow and struggles- she doesn‘t shy away from sharing tragedy. 👍👍

I have to thank a neighbour who lent this to another neighbour who in turn lent to to me. I did return it and listened to most of this on audio. What a life AG had!!! My usual gasps and out loud laughs while I listened and drove/walk/gardened etc cementing the world‘s view I‘m probably off my rocker ( the book is great so you can see the photos in the middle )

Driving around town to plant nurseries to fill some gaps and solve some garden things. The cypress ‘tree ‘ in the background is $250 😬 and I‘m kind of in love with it but I need to make sure it will thrive . I also need to take photos now and make a folder so I can remember what I want to move late fall of next spring ( I seriously love this kind of planning )

Soubhiville Is it the round-on-top one you‘re loving? It‘s super cute! 2y
mcctrish @Soubhiville yes that one, like a little topiary ball 💚💚 2y

Between a so-so and a pan, I actually found this memoir to be disappointing. There‘s no doubt her life has been amazing and tragic but there was a removed, flat affect to the telling of it. Full review at https://booknaround.blogspot.com/2020/12/review-lady-in-waiting-by-anne.html

Interesting book but it seems to hop around all over the place. This memoir does make me want to watch The Crown now and learn more about Princess Margaret.

I‘m a fan of the Netflix series, The Crown. The author was consulted for the series about her time as LIW to Princess Margaret. However, Anne‘s life is pretty interesting. I can‘t imagine living in the aristocratic world: Nannies raising your kids, accepted marital affairs, histrionic behavior (her husband) that no one acknowledges, etc. Anne had no co-writer, and really did an excellent job telling her story, I enjoyed it. 3/5👑s

End of an era. One of my favorite Librarians last book recommendations. After 17 years she's getting married & moving away. She's been the 'Face' of the Library for so long. Always giving me wonderful suggestions like Ann Cleeves Shetland Mysteries. Which has me obsessing about going there.

This one's perfect if like me you love The Crown. 👑

LeahBergen Waiting on my shelves! 😍 4y

Yes, a book about royalty, privilege, and the life of the rich and famous. If you loved The Crown, you‘ll be fascinated by these behind the scenes stories. And while it‘s definitely a life of privilege, she‘s got a down to earth tone and some very personal stories that share some really difficult experiences. I found it a total page turner.

Jess_Read_This I heard her speak on a documentary about Princess Margaret. I found her fascinating to listen to! What a life she‘s led so far! 4y

Anne is a hoot!
Different kind of "royal" biography.
She has one hell of a life.

This lady waits and waits for her life after husband, kids & Princess Anne to begin. She reports from a cool distance what other people around her did. This “extraordinary” life was given to her. She neither fought for it nor longed for it. Just accepted it & walked through it. For her, life just happened. Missing the personal drive that powers autobios, this falls flat. A bettter title for this is “The Lady Vanishes”. Oops - that‘s taken!

Going into this book, I only knew of Princess Margaret (well, and her sister), but I was fascinated by the life of this Lady in Waiting, her husband, their 5 children, and her friendship with the colorful princess. I love it when an octogenarian has the opportunity to tell of their life well-lived.

Eggs I‘ve been wondering about this one! Nice review 👏🏻 5y
marleed @Eggs She lived amongst people living colorful lives, but tells a dignified story with the people who defined her life. I would love to have a cup of tea with her! 5y
PurpleTulipGirl I‘m waiting for this from Overdrive. So lookin forward to it. (edited) 5y
marleed @PurpleTulipGirl My loan came from overdrive. I finished it quickly so I could return it to the queue. I always adjust my reading when a new book drops because I hate keeping a copy unread while others are waiting. 5y

Bk3 of #JumpStart2020 is done! A fantastic memoir, I listened to it on audio being read by the author & she totally brought it to life. From her childhood as the daughter of a duke, her marriage to an eccentric scottish noble that buys the island of Mustique then the last 30yrs as a lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret. Fabulous! #Booked2020 #HeadCoveringOnCover #MemoirsAndMysteries #Audio #JennyIs30 #Autobiography #PopSugar20 #WithAThreeWordTitle

Bk2 of #JumpStart2020 is another audiobook, this time it‘s a memoir read by the author. She has the same accent as the Royals but she sounds more laid back. I suppose being Princess Margaret‘s friend loosened her up some! Margaret was the bad girl of her day, she smoked, drank & partied her way through the 50s 60s & 70s with Anne by her side. What an interesting life she must have led! #Booked2020 #HeadCoveringOnCover #MemoirsAndMysteries #Audio

Took a friend to have a quick look round The Leeds Library so of purse I had to have some books....! I didn‘t already get 4 out earlier this week....

I‘ve heard a lot about the tagged book - sounds interesting, and I‘m hoping the Chanel book may be at least partly set in Monaco for #readingeurope2020.

I do wish they‘d be more careful where they stick their stickers though.... 😬

LeahBergen I just bought Lady in Waiting. 👍🏻 5y
squirrelbrain Have you started it yet @LeahBergen - I read a couple of chapters last night.... 5y

I ordered this for my mom from England for Christmas as she‘s a huge royal fanatic. As is usual in our family, I am pre-reading it before gifting it to her. This chapter title made me giggle. It‘s so stereotypically understated British aristocrat!

LeahBergen I just received this in the mail, too! It sounds so good. 👍🏻 5y
MallenNC I saw her on the Graham Norton show & I am dying to read her book as a result. She was a hoot! 5y

This is precisely the type of memoir I love, one that feels like you are sitting with someone interesting and hearing their stories. I very much liked this look into a different time, place and life! I would highly recommend to anyone that enjoys memoirs, history, royalty. I believe the release date is in March. Thank you #netgalley for a review arc.

BookNAround Rather than request an ARC, I ordered this from England so I can read it and then gift it to my mom for Christmas. 😁 5y
Maude @BookNAround , I hope you both like it as much as I did 🤗 5y
