Meatloaf a huge comfort food! My mom used Betty Crocker- her cooking Bible-but she also adapted recipes as she saw fit. This is just one of hers/ mine comfort foods. Also scallop potatoes, spaghetti & meatballs, chocolate chip blondie bars, hot fudge sauce, etc. rolling meatballs after school is a fond memory. #midwintersolace

My Betty Crocker cookbook is my go-to for common recipes. Both my mother and my grandmother always used it growing up. I used this recipe to make blueberry muffins with a couple of additions- 3/4 cup of blueberries, juice from half a lemon, lemon peel, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, and I upped the 1/3 cup of sugar to 1/2 cup. (Without the added sugar, they are not sweet muffins.) #mistletoemaniacs #wintergames2021

Karisa I love my Betty Crocker book too! I have family recipes even taped inside. It‘s like a scrapbook now. Had some work to our house done and have temporarily miss placed mine 😱 3y

Posting pictures of a few of my cookbooks. I know one of my Litsy friends asked if I could post a picture of the when I said I have a whole bookcase of them! If it was you let me know! Obviously I've had a "senior moment"!!??????

Made divinity this morning. It's one of my favourite things, but I had no idea what it was called until I stumbled across the recipe in my Big Red Betty Crocker cookbook. I made it for the first time last year and figured I'd give it another go, this time with a piping tip. It was a bit tough to manage, given how hot the mixture is, but I managed to make over 60 candies that don't look TOO messy. Hopefully they'll taste good, too!

TricksyTails I've never had these. They look yummy! 😋 7y
xicanti @TricksyTails they're sooooo good. My aunt's sister-in-law makes them sometimes, and I always gobbled them down without knowing what they were. Turns out, they're egg whites beaten with sugar syrup, then left to harden into slightly crispy, slightly floofy candies. 7y

TricksyTails I just looked up the recipe and I must say yours are wayyyyyyyyyy prettier!! 👏😁 7y
xicanti @TricksyTails the instructions say to spoon it out, but I tried that last time and they ended up MESSY. Piping was clearly the way to go. Next time, though, I'm gonna use a round tip instead of a star. (edited) 7y

Avanders So Hot! How do you pipe it?! (I mean.. how doesn‘t it melt the bag???) I make divinity every year for Christmas ☺️ (edited) 7y
xicanti @UwannaPublishme my taste testers gave it their seal of approval. 7y
xicanti @Avanders I was REALLY worried it'd destroy the bag, but I guess the ziploc I chose was tough enough. (I'm not fancy enough for actual piping bags, so I went with one of those heavy-duty one-gallon ziplocs.) I had to wear oven gloves while I squeezed it, though, because the bag hurt to handle otherwise. 7y
Avanders Awesome.. thanks! Maybe I‘ll try that this year ;) they are kinda lumpy normally. (Though I made them pink last year, so that helped a little 😁) (edited) 7y

Pickpick

I believe that everyone should own this cookbook. This book was given to me for the Christmas after I got married by my grandmother and it has helped me out on numerous occasions. I've learned how to make pie crust, Alfredo sauce, icing, and even spatzle. Seriously this is a great graduation, wedding, or spontaneous gift and your loved ones will thank you for it.

LauraBrook Thank you for recommending this! I need a basic cookbook for myself, so I'll be using a B&N coupon to get it! 8y
GlitteryOtters I 100% agree! I have both the 1970 edition & a 2000 edition, and I am vegan, so you would think I wouldn't use it often, but I actually refer to it pretty regularly. Part cookbook, and it feels like that is what everyone focuses on but, MAN, it is an excellent kitchen reference book to help educate you on so many basic, medium and advanced culinary dishes, techniques, etc. 8y

I was cleaning out the pantry and I found Grandma's vintage cookbooks. I was rifling through those while the canine thought he would take a nap behind some modern editions.
