Intercepts
Intercepts: A Horror Novel | T. J. Payne
8 posts | 8 read | 13 to read
A twisted new take on the haunted house genre. Joe works at a secret government facility that performs human experimentation. The inmates, after being subjected to extreme sensory deprivation, go insane. Their brains turn to mush. But if the procedure is done properly, these shells of humans develop a strange new ability. They are able to "intercept" the sights and senses of anyone in the world. Joe has used this procedure to catch terrorists, arms dealers, and drug lords. He is very proud of his work. But then... When Joe's teenage daughter comes to live with him, she starts having terrifying hallucinations. She sees a woman following her everywhere. The woman screams. The woman claws the skin from her own face. The woman demands to be set free. No one else sees this woman. Either Joe's daughter is having a mental breakdown, or the inmates have found her. And they've "intercepted" her mind. From the author of In My Father's Basement comes another chilling novel that's a must-read for fans of horror. "Gruesome, gripping, and terrifyingly real!"

I saw so many TikTok‘s saying how terrifying this book is and so I really had my expectations up. Did it live up to them? Yes and no. I didn‘t actually find this terrifying in any way, but I did find parts unsettling. It‘s pretty creepy to think about people being able to get into your mind and make you see and hear things. I liked the ending too! Solid horror story! 🌟🌟🌟🌟 #skeletoncrew #hauntedshelf

I actually wanted more from this book. I was so hooked in the beginning, but it started to lose me in the middle. I wanted way more descriptions of how everything actually worked. It just brought me out of the book because I didn't fully understand how everything worked. I wish this book had way more details. 3/5

Who else gets the 1980s movie reference in the list of the human experiment victims in this novel?

Joe is the manager at a clandestine facility which performs human experimentation. The test subjects are kept docile & in almost complete sensory deprivation until they are needed to track the whereabouts of someone the government is interested in. Called 'antennas' to dehumanise them to the people that work there, their ability was discovered accidentally but has been purposefully used since. (continued)

OutsmartYourShelf When a cleaner is violently killed by one of the 'antennas' it is put down to a coincidence as they couldn't possibly have been aware of their actions. However, when Joe is notified that his ex-wife has committed suicide, & his daughter admits that she has started to see a strange woman who no-one can see & whose description fits one of those incarcerated in the facility, Joe realises he has to take drastic action to save his daughter. 12mo
OutsmartYourShelf This started off well, giving the reader a sense of unease about the facility & what goes on there, but the characters are really flat & it's difficult to become invested in what happens to them. The ending was good but expected really. I seem to be in the minority, but I didn't really enjoy reading it. I have, however, downloaded one of the author's other books which looks more my kind of thing so we'll see how that one goes. 2⭐

Wowsers.
Now this...this is a horror story. 😲😳
I started this last night, couldn't put it down until I was 1/2 way through and I couldn't keep my eyes open. Then I dreamed of it. I actually had nightmares about this book. I never have nightmares! Well, at least I haven't since I was a kid.
Perfect Halloween read.
*Don't read it late at night 👀 4.5 stars
