Ivan Doig's prose is every bit as lovely as the Montana I've been immersed in for the past two weeks. As I say goodbye to this book and to our vacation, I'll leave this gem from Doig here for everyone to enjoy.

she_barks Montana is the most beautiful place on earth. I feel Doig's presence so strongly when I sit here on my in-law's porch surrounded by big sky. Who will ever be able to tell Montana's stories in his place? I know it's sappy, but I miss him terribly. 8y

At observation posts and in campgrounds and on logging roads and at picture taking perches ... vigil keepers caught in the same moment with Sunday larkers, they died and they died. Died they all who were encamped along the north rim ... as the power of Mt St Helens wells over it,to a sum of 57.
