This was a book of two halves for me. The first half, on the Welsh royal family and the women is fantastic. The second half, on the rise and fall of Simon DeMonfort and the establishment of the British parliament felt a bit heavy going to me at times. Still, amazing, spellbinding storytelling as only Penman can do! 😍

A super pick! I liked this better than the first book, Here Be Dragons. Simon de Montfort was a complex character; Penman had the right idea giving him his own book. Hoping to read The Reckoning sooner rather than later.

CindiB Brother Cadfael is a Welsh monk in Shrewsbury abbey. He is a former soldier and herbalist and solves mysteries. 20 books in the series. I have read the series numerous times. He is a character I miss when I am not reading these books. 4y

Best historical fiction ever 😁
Only eaten puffy (when I went to the Cayman Islands I brought some in the airport- big wotsits)
Both are nature‘s gifts !

LeahBergen @Melissa_J I bought Sunne in Splendour, Here Be Dragons, and Falls the Shadow at book sales for a couple of dollars each. I found The Reckoning in a bookstore‘s remainder bin in the mid 1990s. We‘ll turn you into a secondhand book shopper yet! 😆😆 6y

I think this is probably my fav historical trilogy (this is the middle book). One of my very few re-reads.

Just some falls today.....from my favourite historical series. This is the same as my cover at home.

Melissa_J Look at that cover! I love this book, too, although my favourite Penman's are Sunne in Splendour and When Christ and His Saints Slept. Penman has a new book coming out soon, The Land Beyond the Sea, although I don't think a publication date has been announced. 7y
