The Yoga Store Murder
The Yoga Store Murder: The Shocking True Account of the Lululemon Athletica Killing | Dan Morse
6 posts | 8 read | 13 to read
The full true story of the lululemon murder and what really happened to Jayna Murray and Brittany Norwood--photos included. It was a crime that shocked the country. On March 12, 2011, two young saleswomen were found brutally attacked inside a lululemon athletica retail store in Bethesda, Maryland, one of the nations wealthiest suburbs. Thirty-year-old Jayna Murray was deadslashed, stabbed, and struck more than three hundred times. Investigators found blood spattered on walls, and size fourteen mens shoe prints leading away from her body. Twenty-eight-year-old Brittany Norwood was found alive, tied up on the bathroom floor. She had lacerations, a bloody face, and ripped clothing. She told investigators that two masked men had slipped into the Bethesda lululemon store just after closing, presumably planning to rob it. She spoke of the night of terror she and her coworker had experienced. Investigators were sympatheticbut as the case went on, Brittanys story began to unravel. Why rob a business that dealt mostly in credit cards? Why was Jayna murdered but Brittany left alive? Could the petite, polite Brittany have been involved? Most chilling of all: could she have been the killer?

I missed posting this one earlier -- it's definitely worth checking out if you're into true crime. I didn't know much about this event, but when I discovered it happened right in my former backyard (just a couple years before I moved there), I had to read it. It was fascinating reading about locations I was familiar with, never knowing that this had happened there!

BarbaraTheBibliophage For a minute I thought this was a cozy. But it sounds like the exact opposite. Gasp! 3y
triplem80 @BarbaraTheBibliophage It is definitely the opposite of a cozy! And some of the photos included are from the crime scene! 3y
Cinfhen I‘ve been curious about this one!! Thanks for putting it back on my #ReadersRadar 🧡 3y

Mehso-so

Morse‘s book tells the story of a brutal murder in a Bethesda-based luxury athletic retail store. Morse‘s narrative was sometimes convoluted and I felt like I was missing key details. (Perhaps, this is related to the brutal and chaotic nature of the crime though...) In my opinion, this is not necessarily the strongest piece of true crime writing, but may be more accessible to those familiar with the case.

I‘m reading this right now with my (equally ghoulish) best friend and it‘s hard to put down. 😬

Have you read this @Mdargusch , @Reviewsbylola , @emilyhaldi , @Kaye ?

Suet624 What? Was this in or around DC? 6y
emilyhaldi No!! How is it?! 6y
LeahBergen @Suet624 Yes, in Bethesda, Maryland. 6y

LeahBergen @emilyhaldi It‘s really well done so far. The day-by-day piecing together of the forensic evidence is completely gripping! 6y
Suet624 I remember my daughter telling me about this murder. I had no idea they had written a book about it. 6y
Kaye I haven‘t read this one. I think I heard the story about what happened on a true crime podcast but I don‘t remember which one. I always get this confused with the other murders that occurred in a YOGURT store in Texas. The 4 girls ? 6y
Reviewsbylola I‘ve not read this but it sounds fantastic. The synopsis reminds me of a great true crime book I read recently, mostly because it also took place at a shop. 6y
DebinHawaii This sounds really interesting. Stacking. 6y
ferskner @kaye @Reviewsbylola I do too! They are both so sad, but fascinating. 6y
LeahBergen @Kaye @Reviewsbylola And my friend and I just ordered the Yogurt Shop one last night (to read together). Thanks, you two! 😆 6y
LeahBergen @DebinHawaii It was really well done. 👍🏼 6y
LeahBergen @ferskner I just ordered the about the Yogurt Shop murder. 😬 6y
Kaye Hope you like it. 🙂 6y
Mdargusch No! Now I need to read both of these! I have seen a tv show about both cases though. 6y
LeahBergen @Mdargusch I‘m having a mini ‘true crime binge‘ of late. 😆 6y
Mdargusch Nonfiction is my go to when I‘m in a reading slump, especially true crime. 6y
