She was the most irresistible treasure of all . . .Dominic LeVeq, the most notorious privateer ever to command the high seas, has just captured a coveted prize: a British frigate. On a dangerous mission against the Crown, Dominic should be thinking only of his ship's safety. But the rebel captain is utterly entranced by Clare Sullivan, the stunning slave on board. Consumed by desire, desperate to have her, Dominic offers Clare her freedom in exchange for a forbidden night in his beda night he assures her will be most pleasureable indeed.Clare believes that Dominic is nothing more than a seductive rogue used to getting what he wants. But she too feels a tantalizing passion between them, and so she submits to just one night of bliss. She'll soon realize that Dominic has captured more than her body. He's captured her heart . . . and she doesn't want him to ever let go.

I am typically not a Romance genre type of reader…. But I love love Beverly Jenkins! Absolutely loved this book. Good information provided in the authors notes about Black pirates.

This is a borderline pick. The pirate/adventure portions of this book are really fun - which is the beginning and ending of the book. The romance feels very old school, and is a bit cringey. I really enjoy the LeVeq family stories and will continue the series (this is book 3 but can be read alone) 3.5⭐️

➕: historical romance with pirates set during the American Revolutionary War with black main characters. You don‘t often see historical romance with non-white main characters. It‘s great that Jenkins is giving readers that opportunity. ➖: although there were elements I liked, I just didn‘t get pulled into the book. This was a book club read otherwise I would probably not have finished it.

POC Author ✅ @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft

I'm not usually one to read historical romances involving pirates, but this one is shaping up to be pretty good!

I just signed up for my first 24 in 48 readathon and I'm excited. Already thinking about which books I will read. 🤓 Who else is participating? Do you have a plan for what you will read?

CherylDeFranceschi @Bookzombie I'm in, and I've been kind of stacking things, but still not sure. I've never participated before. 8y
Bookzombie Yay! @CherylDeFranceschi I started mentally stacking tonight. Trying to decide if I should request more library books or read more of what I already own or have currently from the library, both regular books and e-books. 😜 8y
CherylDeFranceschi @Bookzombie That was my one for-sure for myself, mixing books and e-books. I think maybe a graphic novel and some YA, too. 8y
LisaMakeWords I am planning to make a battleplan soon! I'm super excited for the event though, never participated before. 8y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I'm with you in spirit! 8y

Who doesn't enjoy a pirate tale? A sweet story that at times was awkward.
