Red wine and a new (old) book to start this evening.
This 1932 novel, about a debutante‘s search for a husband and her relationship with her loving (but aspiring) mother, is by the author of one of my favourite books.
The title comes from the Euripides quote: “Down on your knees, and thank heaven, fasting, for a good man‘s love”. 🙄

Tanisha_A Dude, that title. 😂 4y
LeahBergen @Tanisha_A Right?? At least the author is using it satirically. 😆 4y
Tanisha_A @LeahBergen Yep, that's clear. It's hilarious! 4y

Bookboss I loved her Provincial Lady series, and I had not heard of this title! I just ordered it! 4y
KVanRead Love that cover art😍 4y
rubyslippersreads The only other book I‘ve seen this phrase used in is GWTW. I would read the tagged book just for that cover. 😍 4y
LeahBergen @Bookboss This novel, unlike Provincial Lady, is tinged with a bit more darkness (but it‘s quite a wonderful bit of social commentary). 4y
LeahBergen @KVanRead @rubyslippersreads Yes! Isn‘t it a wonderful cover? I love the old green Viragos. 💚 4y
