POWER HAS A PRICE. SO DOES LOVE. Return to the dark, sensual, and powerful world of the Black Jewels in this long-awaited new story in the New York Times bestselling fantasy saga. After a youthful mistake, Lord Dillon's reputation is in tatters, leaving him vulnerable to aristo girls looking for a bit of fun. To restore his reputation and honor, he needs a handfast--a one-year contract of marriage. He sets his sights on Jillian, a young Eyrien witch from Ebon Rih, who he believes has only a flimsy connection to the noble society that spurned him. Unfortunately for Dillon, he is unaware of Jillian's true connections until he finds himself facing Lucivar Yaslana, the volatile Warlord Prince of Ebon Rih. Meanwhile, Surreal SaDiablo's marriage is crumbling. Daemon Sadi, the Warlord Prince of Dhemlan, recognizes there is something wrong between him and Surreal, but he doesn't realize that his attempt to suppress his own nature in order to spare his wife is causing his mind to splinter. To save Daemon, and the Realm of Kaeleer if he breaks, help must be sought from someone who no longer exists in any of the Realms--the only Queen powerful enough to control Daemon Sadi. The Queen known as Witch. As Jillian rides the winds of first love with Dillon, Daemon and Surreal struggle to survive the wounds of a marriage turned stormy--and Lucivar has to find a way to keep everyone in his family safe...even from each other.

"Queen/King " @Clwojick This series is the best series I have ever read. This one being number 8 I believe. Anne Bishop created a beautiful world of love , hate ,racism and overcoming your fears. I laughed, cried and had withdrawal from my favorite characters. It
also was interesting to have the main character named the same as my daughter ?

Clwojick Oooh sounds interesting! 2y

Pickpick

After almost a decade, Bishop has written a book in the Black Jewels realm. I missed these characters so much more than I realized and might have to reread the series. As for this book, I think a new reader could start with this book, as it seems to be introducing a new storyline. There is little reference to past events, however for more background, reading the original trilogy would be good. #NutsinMay #jennyis30 #fantasy #LitsyAtoZ #booked2020

cobwebmoth You're welcome! 4y
Chrissyreadit Ohh! I loved these books- but would need a reread to catch up. 4y
tdrosebud @Chrissyreadit You could probably go ahead and read this and be fine. As I mentioned in the review, there isn't a lot of reference to past events, and since you've read them before, I doubt you would be lost at all. But yeah, I totally want to do a reread now, I loved them so much. I'm thinking it might help get my focus back on track. There will be another book following this one called The Queen's Weapons, no date yet though. 4y

Meant to post this sooner. A set your own goals readathon. My goals are at least 1 bookspin book and 2 library books. Since things are starting to open back up, I figure I better focus on the library ones. I was lucky enough to be 1st on the hold list for this book, and picked it up a few days before closing.
#nutsinmay @andrew65

Andrew65 Good luck with your goals. 😊👍 (edited) 5y

This was a surprise to me that I enjoyed this book. I thought the way she treated some of her characters was cruel, but I think the hints she‘s dropping about a major new book we‘re interesting. I think it‘s a disappointment that she is choosing to mess with what had been a happy ending, but I am interested to see where she goes. 2/5 stars

Well snap, that was disappointing.

esurient Surreal got thrown under a bus. 5y
esurient It's real hard for me to read this as anything but a judgement of Surreal not being Jaenelle. 5y
esurient And Jaenelle is back, magically. She's like a ghost or something. 5y
esurient I know this is the first half of a duology. We'll see what the second half holds. 5y
esurient Personally, I think I've read enough of the super-powered characters -- I want more about hearthwitches and light Jewels. Imma go reread again 5y

I can‘t begin to describe how delighted I was to slip back into the Black Jewels Realms during my self-isolation time. Once again, Anne Bishop has woven together a dark fantasy tale that I could read over and over again. And I probably will. This has the echoes of what made me fall in love with the series to begin with. Magic, love, and the humor found in the every day moments. All wrapped up with that dark fantasy edge. ❤️
