Pawsitively Poisonous (Witch of Edgehill #1)
Pawsitively Poisonous (Witch of Edgehill #1) | Melissa Erin Jackson
9 posts | 10 read | 3 to read
Every town has its secrets, but no one has a secret like hers.
Amber Blackwood, lifelong resident of Edgehill, Oregon, has earned a reputation for being a semi-reclusive odd duck. Her store, The Quirky Whisker, is full of curiosities, from extremely potent sleepy teas and ever-burning candles to kids’ toys that seem to run endlessly without the aid of batteries. The people of Edgehill think of the Quirky Whisker as an integral part of their feline-obsessed town, but most give Amber herself a wide berth. Amber prefers it that way; it keeps her secret safe. But that secret is thrown into jeopardy when Amber’s friend Melanie is found dead, a vial of headache tonic from Amber’s store clutched in her hand.
Edgehill’s newest police chief has had it out for Amber since he arrived three years before. He can’t possibly know she’s a witch, but his suspicions about her odd store and even odder behavior have shot her to the top of his suspect list. When the Edgehill rumor mill finds out Melanie was poisoned, it’s not only the police chief who looks at Amber differently. Determined to both find justice for her friend and to clear her own name, Amber must use her unique gifts to help track down Melanie’s real killer. A quest that threatens much more than her secret …

Mehso-so

There were a lot of characters and background given at the start of the book. It felt a bit much. I thought I was reading a mid-series book but no.

Personally, I don't think you can have a cosy mystery when the victim is the character's close friend. It changes the dynamic.

This was fine. It was predictable and safe but an easy read.

Unfortunately I just didn't enjoy this one very much. I liked the idea of the main character making magical toys for the children though.

One from my Kindle #TBR with #Poison in the title & the first in a cozy series. I don‘t know if I‘ll get to it this month with so many other books to read for #TeamMonsterMash

I wasn't sure about the idea behind this book when I started it, but I actually ended up loving it. It was a light, quirky read. There wasn't too much to the story, but that was okay. The mystery was easy to figure out, but watching it all unfold and be discovered is where the story is at anyway.

I'm really curious as to where the rest of the series goes. This one was intriguing. I especially liked the introduction to the cat themed town.

🌼🌼😏Don't you love my kindle cover? Looks beautiful like a Starry Night 😉😉🌼🌼
☕So I've been diagnosed with post covid_19 something, Doctors say they don't know for how long will last; it would be a year this May since I had it. That makes 1 more thing to worry about besides the side effects of my treatment. I'm staying positive. Keeping my mind busy, focusing on other things. Meditating & over all reading!
🌼📖🌼Happy Friday Reading Everyone!

Ellies_Books06 Btw, this book is Cozy Mistery and cat lovers genre. It feels comfortable to read it. I'm just preparing my self for the next 5 books 📚 by Cassandra Clare's saga that I haven't read. (I died and come back to life like in every chapter with those books). Like recharging energy 😉 4y
Ruthiella Beautiful kindle cover! Hope your recovery goes well or better than before ! 😀 4y
Ellies_Books06 @Ruthiella thank you. I'm staying in bed the less I can stand. I do chores...hoping this will go away soon. 😉 4y
Crazeedi @LoydaElionora I'm so sorry you are suffering! A big hug!! Will try to write again very soon!! 4y
Ellies_Books06 @Crazeedi thank you! I'm staying positive and keeping my faith up! 4y

I liked that in this story, Amber‘s use of magic was both spells as well as potions. I can‘t say that I appreciated all the ways that she used her supernatural skills in order to get the information she wanted because it was kind of underhanded. I am hoping in the future she can expand her repertoire as well as cement friendships with locals so that they can assist in her investigations. Overall it was a great series starter.
