The Janes
The Janes: An Alice Vega Novel | Louisa Luna
19 posts | 15 read | 10 to read
The electric follow-up to Louisa Luna's acclaimed thriller Two Girls Down, featuring private investigators Alice Vega and Max Caplan. On the outskirts of San Diego, the bodies of two young women are discovered. They have no names, no IDs, and no family looking for them. Fearing the possibility of a human trafficking ring, the police and FBI reach out to Alice Vega, a private investigator known for finding the missing, for help in finding out who the Janes were--and finding the others who are missing. Alice Vega is a powerful woman whose determination is matched only by her intellect, and, along with her partner Cap, she will stop at nothing to find the Janes before it is too late. Louisa Luna is writing new classics of crime fiction, and her partnership of Vega and Cap is rightfully joining the pantheon of the most memorable in crime fiction.

This second outing for Alice Veja and Max Caplan is a solid read. Luna seems to have settled into her central characters a bit as they are slightly less larger than life in this novel. It‘s an intriguing, slightly more complex mystery which comments more directly on social and political ills. A solid read which I found a smidge slower than the first in the series.

Matilda I love the pairing in this series. And she has a new standalone coming out this year. 10mo
ClairesReads @Matilda I‘m looking forward to both finishing this series and reading her new book 10mo

Even better than the first Alice Vega novel. Just read it if you like a well drawn, compelling, complicated main character and a relationship with a partner that is like no other you‘ve read before. The story line is excellent and timely too. And, oh yeah, the reveal of a minor but important character in the final pages promises some really good stuff ahead.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bookzombie I loved both of the Alice Vega books. I wish she had another one out already! 4y

Giving this a so-so because mainly because I think some plot points just got kind of ridiculous and unrealistic...not as good as the first. But I still love Cap and Vega as characters, and the narration is just fantastic on these. Can't wait to see what she puts out next!

Starting a new #libby audiobook today! I loved the first Alice Vega mystery, which had fantastic narration. I'm hoping we get to learn more about her backstory in this one!

Two Girls Down was a #BOTM pick that I rated quite highly last year, I absolutely loved the main character. This sequel, however, I was much less enthusiastic about. Not bad, but not memorable either. Bummer!

A dark follow up to Luna‘s “Two Girls Down.” Pretty similar to the first book (and not much added character development). ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #Netgalley #arc

I wish I could remember what person, podcast, or website suggested this book. Whoever it was deserves a BIG thanks from me. I totally enjoyed this book and am going to go back and read the first book in this series. Best crime-drama I‘ve read in a long time.

It's been a stressful month. The news makes it difficult to concentrate on reading, even with more time. I'm telecommuting, & band rehearsals are canceled, along with all social/family activities. Considering, I'm happy I read 9 books in March. ⁣

Doesn't look like I will be able to make my May trip to Maui. I'll console myself with memories & photos. 🌴🌺 ⁣

How do I go on? There are no more Alice Vega novels, and I don‘t know what I‘ll read now. Hurry, Louisa Luna, and write another one. All that to say, I have a heavy book hangover. If you‘ve not read Two Girls Down, read it now, and then read The Janes. You will not read two more wonderful books this year. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

There are only 2 Alice Vega novels, this is the second, but I am hoping there‘s going to be a million more. I don‘t think I‘ll ever get tired of Vega and Cap, or the way Louisa Luna writes dark, violent, engaging, fast-paced mysteries. I couldn‘t put this down and I‘m bummed it‘s over. If you‘re looking for a kickass female PI, I cannot recommend those series highly enough. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Bette Just finished it...and loved it too. I hope the next one comes faster. ❤️👍😊 5y

You know a book is really good when it cuts through the fog of a cold and insomnia. I am not much of a detective/mystery reader, but Alice Vega is amazing.

Thank you, #NetGalley, for the chance to get an early read of the sequel to Two Girls Down!! I hoped when I finished Luna‘s debut novel for adults that this would turn into a series and when I saw that over two years later it had, I was so excited to see Vega and Cap working together again!! This is a strong sequel, set mainly in California and one that had me up late into the night to finish!! But definitely read these in order!

This is the first time I've read anything by this author and it's interesting. Based on some of the happenings, it looks like this is your typical Mexican drug cartel and human trafficking ring idea, except from the perspective of the detectives. One of them being successful investigator Alice Vega #bookishfirst #mystery #arc
