The weekend is off to a good start! Kitty snuggles, my book spin read (tagged), a cozy simmer pot, flowers from hubby, and a very serious dispute between Phil and I (top left) over who is, in fact, the rightful owner of that bookmark. Don‘t tell him, but it‘s me 😂 What is everyone reading this weekend?

1. We got sick of the heat and moved to Alaska 🤪

2. I always loved the Redwall series, but I loved it even more after reading an interview with the author where he talked about how the incredibly descriptive text was inspired by the work he did with blind children. I love the idea of finding ways to incorporate your passion with your work

slategreyskies I haven‘t read Redwall yet, but I‘ve got it on my Kindle waiting for me. Thanks for reminding me of it! :) 1y
Bklover Oh, I think I‘d love Alaska right now!! 1y
TheSpineView Just curious, what is your highs there in the summer? Thanks for playing, BTW! 1y

TieDyeDude @TheSpineView We've been here for 3 weeks now, and it hasn't really gotten above 70°. It feels warmer sometimes, the sun can get intense, but hit some shade or with cloud coverage it's amazing! 1y
TieDyeDude @slategreyskies My older brother isn't much of a reader, but I inherited this series from him growing up 1y
TheSpineView @TieDyeDude Wow! It 95 here today and very humid. The heat index was >100. 1y
TheBookHippie Redwall one of my sons favorites!! Such good memories! The author - How wonderful ! It‘s 72 here 🙃 1y

When I can't decide what to read next, I like to visit my old friends of Redwall Country. The amount of time I spent in this world when I was younger! Of course I must have a snack while I read any of the series since the food/drink descriptions will keep your mouth watering. And finally - outdoor reading weather!

I'm in the middle of a few books right now, but I've started Redwall as my first, fun summer reading book. What book summer reading book have you started?

Watched the movie last night with husband and four year old. Super fun! I read the book decades ago and am thinking of rereading it now ☺️

Heading home today! Let‘s talk about the journey home! 🏡

1. The South Island of New Zealand. I loved the landscapes, the people, the food, the trees. Oh the trees. 💚
2. The Lord of the Rings. I love seeing how all the different characters have changed.
3. Tagged! I just want to sink into Jacques‘s atmospheric descriptions of Redwall Abbey. The food would be a nice bonus. 😋

#SundayFunday Have a wonderful day, and don‘t forget to tag me!

Currently reading.

Visiting my sister for the holidays. She was obsessed with these books as a kid but I missed them somehow so I‘m going back to read them now.

annahenke I loved these as a kid! 3y

I want to go back in time and love this in #1986 my last book to complete #CenturyReads 100 years/100 books. I have always liked animal fantasies such as Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH so I don't know why I hadn't read it before now, but I will definitely continue. #BBRC anthropomorphic before 2010 @LibrarianRyan #SeriesRead2021 @TheSpineView

Plenty of adventure, different dialects, a great villain. Just wonderful.

These are honesty just fun books. Listened to the full cast audiobook and it went by like a breeze. Really well read, well cast, and overall a decent story. Can see a lot of things coming from miles away, but a good easy summer read. Would have definitely loved this more as a kid. #bookspin for July @TheAromaofBooks

Lucy_Anywhere I loved these books as a kid! Not sure I would re-read them now as I suspect they just wouldn‘t live up to my memories 3y
radesilets @Lucy_Anywhere the voice acting sold it. I have owned these books since I was a kid, but never got around to reading them. I imagine small me was intimidated by the length? And adult me didn‘t want to bother? But I need to clear my shelves so I decided to just add the next 1 in the series to each bookspin and see if it gets chosen. It did this month! 3y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 3y
TieDyeDude I loved these books. I think I only read 5 of them, but meeting Mr. Jacques was probably my favorite author interaction yet 3y

I'm still riding the high of working on the first day of summer reading at the library! 😂🤣 I can't even handle how happy I am! BEING A LIBRARIAN IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST! 💕📚💕

This is a long time favorite series of mine that I'm going to be recommending quite often this summer, especially in consideration of the animal theme! 🐇🐢🦊🐀🐒🐯

Jess861 Love the Redwall series! 3y
Moonprismpower Wow your library starts early! Ours doesn‘t start until the 26th 🙂 3y
Branwen @Jess861 Me too! It's so fun and cute! @Moonprismpower Yes! It's super fun to start so early! The only downside is that it ends early too. 😢 I think the last week is in the beginning of August! 3y

Brian Jacques has a beautiful way with words. As he builds the foundation of the Redwall world, you feel comforted and at peace. Like you‘re walking into a warm home full of old friends and happy memories. Redwall was one of the introductory fantasy worlds I fell into as a teen. As an adult, I enjoyed it just as much as when I first read it. #youngadult #fantasy

🐭 While I love the world, there were a few stereotypes (looking at you, Basil Stag Hare, what, what!) Hero characters were rather bland too. But the villains? Loved them! Cluny the Scourge! Asmodeus Poisonteeth! Old Sela the Fox and her son Chickenhound! And what about these great names like Darkclaw, Scumnose, and, my personal favorite, Cheesethief! More deaths and cruelty here than I expected, but this is no Watership Down, thank god! 🐭

BookmarkTavern The entire series is kind of like that. Black and white, Good vs Evil. I still love them. 😆❤️❤️ 4y

I loved this book when I first read it and I definitely enjoyed my re-read of it. Brian Jacques has an incredible gift when it comes to descriptive writing. His feast descriptions leave your mouth watering. And the riddles are brilliant I'm going to have to re-read the series now.

2. A book published the year you were born.

Clwojick ♥️👏🏻 Yet another book that I‘ve yet to read. I feel like this is another popular one that I somehow missed out on. 4y
Jess861 @Clwojick I was lucky enough to have a friend recommend this series when I was a kid - I never would have heard about it otherwise. Definitely worth a read although the author follows the same format in all the books so I can never re-read the whole series at once as it feels a bit repetitive at times. 4y
Clwojick I can understand that! Thanks for letting me know. 4y

Kicking off the Read Your Sign challenge with a re-read - Redwall by Brian Jacques. I was stuck waiting in the car for an appointment my husband had so I figured it would be a good time to start. Redwall was published in the same year that I was born.

That was fast! @TheAromaofBooks Thanks again so much for sending them along to me!! I can‘t tell you how helpful the timeline you included is going to be haha. So looking forward to reading these!

TheAromaofBooks Are you serious?! I can't believe it got there so fast going media mail!! I'm so excited that it made it safely! And I got so mixed up with those books that I HAD to find a timeline because of how my brain works haha Hope you enjoy them - the numbers on the spines are the published order, by the way, not the chronological order. 5y

RainyDayReading @TheAromaofBooks Completely serious! I was really confused when my boyfriend walked up with this box in his hands asking if I had ordered something 😂 I didn't think it would show up so soon! The numbers on the spines were so helpful with trying to put them in order. From what I've seen, published order is the better way to read them so that works fine for me. I can understand why! There's so many they definitely mess with your mind 😂 5y
RainyDayReading @readingjedi Aren't they though?! I love them! 5y
RainyDayReading @ozma.of.oz Thanks! I hope I do too! I enjoyed Redwall when I read it so I can't wait to continue on with these! 5y
TheAromaofBooks I'm just so excited to be able to share them with someone else. I really enjoyed reading them in my childhood, and loved rereading them as an adult last year, but I don't think I'll read them again, so it's wonderful to be able to send them on to a happy home!! 5y

The best part of every Redwall book is that there is always a lavish and bountiful feast described. It makes you come away craving strawberry fizz, turnip and potato pie, dandelion salad, raspberry crumble, shrimp 'n' hotroot soup, and a hundred other things! It's enough to make your mouth water everytime you read! 🍽
