Stolen Things
Stolen Things | R. H. Herron
A sensational crime, a missing teen, and a mother and daughter with no one to trust but themselves come together in this shocking debut thriller by R. H. Herron. "Mama? Help me." Laurie Ahmadi has worked as a 911 police dispatcher in her quiet Northern California town for nearly two decades. She considers the department her family; her husband, Omid, is its first Arab American chief, and their teenaged daughter, Jojo, has grown up with the force. So when Laurie catches a 911 call and, to her horror, it's Jojo, the whole department springs into action. Jojo, drugged, disoriented, and in pain, doesn't remember how she ended up at the home of Kevin Leeds, a pro football player famous for his on-the-field activism and his work with the CapB--"Citizens Against Police Brutality"--movement. She doesn't know what happened to Kevin's friend and trainer, whose beaten corpse is also discovered in the house. And she has no idea where her best friend Harper, who was with her earlier in the evening, could be. But when Jojo begins to dive into Harper's social media to look for clues to her whereabouts, Jojo uncovers a shocking secret that turns everything she knew about Harper--and the police department--on its head. With everything they thought they could rely on in question, Laurie and Jojo begin to realize that they can't trust anyone to find Harper except themselves . . . and time is running out.

Pretty good book. It had a slow start but once you start reading goes faster.

#Scarathlon2020 #Screamathon #CYOReadathon

This book is a wild ride- but it deals with a lot of horrific events. Laurie's teen daughter, Jojo, wakes up in a dark bedroom alone, drugged and hurting. Her best friend is missing. For reasons I don't want to spoil, Laurie and Jojo try to find Harper because the cops aren't interesting in finding her. Although I'm #TeamHarkness, this is a traumatic thriller worthy of #TeamSlaughter. ☠

I didn't really set any goals for #CYOReadathon or #Screamathon, just trying to read all the books. Yesterday was crazy busy for me at work, but thankfully I woke up early in order to get some reading done, and my commute allows for audiobook listening! I finished The Mansion, which was creepy and haunted, and started Stolen Things, which is fast paced and brutal.

Points for #Scarathlon2020 @StayCurious 81pts.

This book drew me in from the first chapter.
Jojo, wakes up in a strange place and happens to call 911 and her mom answers her call. And from then on it‘s a whirlwind of events between cops, family and friends. Everything she thought she knew gets turned around and throughly enjoyed the ride and (read)
Highly recommend this book!! Suspense, mystery.

I‘m down to the final chapters... damn I love this book so much. And can‘t wait to see if any of my suspicions are even remotely close!

Just talked to my hubby, and was like start reading! It‘s like each book you read is a new movieeee in ur head. That‘s what I envision when I read. (I‘m a major movie buff, but movies have been sucky lately) you can imagine whatever your heart desires.
Off to finish this

Texreader @Curly_Caffeinated_Reader I nearly added it to my tbr list then saw how long it is! Your review is mighty enticing! 5y
Curly_Reader @texreader it‘s not too long it‘s 360 pages and the words aren‘t so small on the pages. Quick read if ur into thrillers. Give it a try 👍🏼 5y
Curly_Reader @Texreader oh I see what u mean the description says 589 pages. Maybe on paperback? 5y
Texreader @Curly_Caffeinated_Reader Ok 360 is more doable. I love chunksters but I‘m a very slow reader so I‘m careful about picking them. 5y

#24B4Monday readathon last book read. I only participated for 13 hours of reading 2 books finished. This is a fast reading, one murder, one rape and not all was as it seemed. It is a cop/detective plot so if you don't like this type of topic this is not for you. As author mentioned, I sadly concur that some things in book can really happen in real life. I think it could be a good action movie. Other parts were ok 3.7⭐️ @TheReadingMermaid

This book starts with a 911 dispatcher getting a call from her daughter. "Mama. Help me." And then zooms it's way to the end. I could barely put it down. Thrilling with twists and turns I didn't see coming. Loved it!

Gissy I have it!👏I need to read it as soon as I finish the one I'm reading! 5y
lahousewyfe @Gissy This book moves so fast, it seriously will only take you a few moments to read. I think I clocked it in about 4 hours. 5y

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I think the author‘s firsthand knowledge as a former 911 operator helped set the intense, realistic scene that the book starts out with. If you are looking for something different than what we often see in thrillers, I think this will prove to be a nice change of pace for you.

I‘m on Day 5 of the #botmbookclubseptphotochallenge on Instagram: Current Reads! What are you reading now? Aside from the two in the picture, I am also reading an ebook called Lock Me In by Kate Simants, which is due out next month. Definitely keep an eye out for it if you like thrillers!

This story really intrigued me from start to finish. It really was a heart breaking story showing, even as the writer says in her authors note, how broken our justice system is, but also heartbreaking because it is world crushing to learn the people you love have secrets and are not who you always imagined them to be I really enjoyed this book. Trigger warning for rape
