What's going on. I should have hated this book, and instead I totally ate it up and can't wait until I get my hands on the second book 😂 This is absolutely ridiculous stuff, with shallow, vapid characters, so-so writing, a paper-thin plot, and 100% soap opera level drama on every page. LOVED IT 😆

This book was okay. One of the characters got on my nerves. I will still read the series. I rated this book a 3 out of 5 stars.
You already know the story of the American Revolution, and the birth of the American monarchy.
You might know it from the picture books you read as a child. From your elementary school performances—when you longed to play the role of King George I or Queen Martha, and instead were cast as a cherry tree.

This was truly a unbelievably amazing book to read. All the drama in it was absolutely marvelous. I can‘t wait to see what happens in the rest of the series. Highly recommend for any one who is a fan of the Alternate History genre. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well, I loved the concept. The intro just hit me over the head with the fantasy of monarchy in America and the what-if of George Washington being made king instead of president. There were bits of originality in the setting beyond that, but then the author just copied themes of the real British monarchy‘s family. It really became a story of young romance with couples that aren‘t “supposed” to be together but are. The ending was very abrupt.
Finished my American Royals reread so I can enjoy the sequel with a refreshed memory! Logic says it‘s late so I should just start the second book tomorrow, but… I‘m not the most logical person.
I'm 62 pages in and bored out of my mind with the cliches. I picked this book up when I bought One Of Us Is Lying, so I must've been in the mood at B&N that night... but I just CAN'T seem to get into it! Somebody PLEASE confirm it gets better?!
"...it never matters what Beatrice does. ...she's going to be queen someday."
"And what are you going to be?"
Samantha grinned. "Everything else."
If that doesn't paint a picture of a wild child, I don't know what does! ?
I thought this was a good YA read - which is what I was expecting, so I was not disappointed. Be prepared to read book #2 because this one leaves you curious for what happens next.
This book was not my cup of tea. I only finished it because it is for book club. The characters are all brats who did horrible things to each other and I couldn't wait for it to end. Needless to say I will not be reading the other 2 books in the series.
I did not enjoy this. It was not the narrator who was fine, although the husky male voices were not great, but take the thesaurus away from this author. Everyone in this book was constantly incredulous, feeling were always tinged, people felt electric and full of lightning, which was a lot for a cast of characters that was proudly virginal. Please let me never again listen to a book where every male character has a lopsided smile. I‘m too cynical.
Why am I listening to this and loving it? The male voices I am not into and this is not quite what I was expecting. Guilty pleasure and highly predictable, I doubt I‘ll read the second but this is solid background listening.
Please help. I can‘t stop.
I really enjoyed this book! It was a quick read that made me want to never put it down. I can‘t wait to read the sequel!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Recommended by a friend, I did like this (first in the duology?) but held it in high expectation due to being a huge fan of Cass' The Selection series. Glad to have waited to read this one until the second title was published will make the cliffhanger ended a little easier assuming the second will pick up right where this one left off. So many secrets and d.r.a.m.a.
If Washington had become king instead of president, then a royal lineage would have followed through the centuries. The book assumes that happened & takes us into the lives of the modern-day American Royals. It‘s fun fluff & perfect for the beach! It was just what I needed and I already have the sequel queued up on my Kindle since reviewers said it ends in a cliffhanger. We flip between 4 different potential couples, including the king‘s 3 kids.
This was way better than I was expecting - don‘t ask me why I wasn‘t expecting it to be my thing, except that it‘s a bit outside my normal wheelhouse. Took no time at all to be really invested in these characters, and now I‘m desperate for book 2 and my library doesn‘t have it! Sigh. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This enchanting book has everything--romance, rivalry, scheming, death, and politics.
Imagine if the United States never became a Democracy, if George Washington became our first King instead of our first President. This book takes those what-ifs and brings them to reality in modern-day society. This is a great YA book that takes a look at how the US would change as the newest monarch to ascend will also be the first Queen ruler.
I would say yes, read this, just for the fun premise of what it might be like if George Washington would have chosen to be a king. But, the ending left me unsatisfied and disappointed! I got so invested in these characters and not a one of them had a happy ending! WHAT?? It follows the complicated romances of four girls who are very involved in the royal life. And I enjoyed the ride, but really wanted one of them to have a happily ever after!
I was looking for something fun and lighthearted to read during the shitstorm that is the first two weeks of 2021 and this did the trick! It may not have been the best YA book I‘ve ever read, but it kept me interested the whole time. And WOW, it ended on a cliff hanger - I wonder how long it will take for me to get my hands on the second one 😭
Rereading this audiobook to prepare for the sequel (and hopefully the conclusion of the series) while I go through my syllabi to get ready for classes to start tomorrow!
Why isn‘t book #2 out yet?!??

I absolutely adored Katharine‘s THOUSANDTH FLOOR series and I nearly died for this at BEA 😂 so I‘m super excited to start this book!
