so-so

I was a bit disappointed in this, my second book by Ahlborn. There‘s nothing new or groundbreaking here, just a rehash of various horror movie plot devices. It‘s all very predictable and I haven‘t even read that many horror novels. But, at least the dog does not die. I don‘t care if that‘s a spoiler. It‘s important to know, especially since the dog was the only character I didn‘t hate. Snarky comment under spoiler tag.

DGRachel I spent 3/4 of the book waiting for Jesse to die. Halfway through I was shouting “hurry up and kill yourself already. We know that‘s what is going to happen!” *sigh* 4y

DGRachel Oh and I recommend the audiobook if only because one of the voices the narrator does really increases the creep factor. 4y

My least favorite Ahlborn. This was a possession story that stretched on and on and on. This could also just be cooped up in the quarantined COVID-19 times, irritable me talking, but I really think it‘s the story. Just a so-so.

This was my first book by Ahlborn, but she certainly delivers in the creepiness department. Fast-paced, if slightly disturbing, ghost story/haunted house/psychological horror that certainly kept me turning pages.

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

In typical me-fashion, I sealed the book in an envelope before taking a picture of it. It‘s on the way to you, Reggie—sorry it‘s a day late. I hope the rest of #LMPBC group H enjoys it!
