so-soWhile entertaining,this easy listening Edwardian mystery series featuring Lady Rose Summer, her maid/companion, Daisy, & Captain Harry Cathcart,a noble-born private investigator hired by her father,is somewhat predictable. Romance disguised as animosity, between Rose & Harry is woven though out both books.
Much “ snobbery” of the upper aristocrats towards the middle/ lower classes is explored, which sparked my interest.
I‘ve read a lot of Victorian era novels, but not many Edwardian. After Women Talking & Milkman, I was in the mood for something lighter. This is my first time reading this author, though I have watched her Agatha Raisin tv series. The protagonist is Lady Rose Summer, who is wealthy and “over educated”. She marches with the Suffragettes and faces ruin in ch. 1. Checks all my boxes - smart, rebellious women in an interesting time period? Sign me up!
so-soEh. The start of an Edwardian mystery quartet, it took a while to get into, then it mostly read quickly and held my attention, and it ended...fine. I'll read the rest in the series, most likely bc I already have them checked out from the library. It was good, but nothing spectacular.
I'm joining in Dewey's Readathon tomorrow, but am not doing any planning. Fingers crossed the reading bug bites me tomorrow! Have hardly read all week.
Going to start this one since I have a few minutes before my client arrives. Has anyone read this? I started a few pages a week ago and was underwhelmed so I'm starting again.
bailedI found the characters to be flat and frankly stupid - including the supposedly "too smart" ones - and the plot was far too meandering.
