These leaves peek out at me over the side of the bookcase I can see from my bed reminding me that this ARC randomly arrived in the mail years ago back when I had a book blog, and I‘ve still barely glanced at it. The Litsy reviews are scant and sort of all over the place. What do you think? Has anyone read it? Will I ever read it?

Anyone anyone who has read this book knows how long the MC waits to get back to Greengage.

Sounds hokey, right? Well it is, a bit. Some of the narrative really grabbed me, there was some great writing there. I loved the backstory of Lux and her father and wished that that was a standalone book. There were also many unanswered questions which as the reader, you must suspend your disbelief.

I started out liking it , but it grew increasingly difficult. The female lead was really self-centered . The details for the 1906 part were spare to the point if those chapters didn't list the year you'd never know it it was supposed to be 1906 . This book is apparently similar to Brigadoon . Never saw the movie or read that book . Anyway was hoping for a compelling story, but was disappointed .

Valley of the Moon by Melanie Gideon is a lovely book. It is a time travel story. I do not usually enjoy time travel as a plot device, but in this case it works. This book is a sweet, gentle story of a woman finding her place in the world. Lux is a struggling single mom, trying to do her best for her child. I enjoyed reading this book and give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Though this was not perfect (I had some issues with historical accuracy & thought some of the dialogue felt awkward), it was an enjoyable & somewhat unique storyline. Brought me to near-tears near the end with a turn I wasn't quite expecting.

I'm enjoying the story here, but having some issues with historical accuracy. Besides some questionable dialogue one might hear in 1906 America, this section, set in 1975, does not ring true to me. Did any of you Litsy peeps own answering machines in 1975??

Book mail two days in a row. The LibraryThing peeps are good to me! I didn't request the cookbook, tho. Maybe they're trying to tell me something. 🤔

I don't want it to end. So many book feels...

If u like hist fic or if u like time benders like The Time Traveler's Wife & Narnia, I think u'll enjoy this one. The writing & structure are impeccable. I highlighted lines at least every 3rd pg. How her relat unfolded w dad was deeply insightful. Careful love story intertwined with pers growth.

Reading, loving, if baffled. Melanie Gideon may well be my favorite author discovery in 2016.

The second book I won this week....

I was skeptical of the premise (a Brigadoon-esque love story in which the 1906 earthquake jolts a Northern California collective farm from 1906 to 1975), but I ended up enjoying this one.
