Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle
Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle | Washington Irving
5 posts | 9 read | 2 to read
Here are two favorite stories by "the father of American literature" exactly as Washington Irving wrote them, newly reset in easy-to-read type, with six handsome new illustrations. Once again in these pages, Ichabod Crane, the hapless schoolmaster of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," faces the terror of the Headless Horseman, and the henpecked husband of "Rip Van Winkle" rises from a 20-year sleep to find a world vastly changed. Children and adults alike will enjoy the humor and suspense of these two beloved classics of American literature.

Fall weather has finally arrived in Oklahoma! 🧡🤎🍁🍂🤎🧡 Burrr! And it has brought the spooky along with it! I‘m not much of a scary book reader, but I do love me some Headless Horseman! 🎃 Just so eerie! Washington Irving sure knew how to spin a gothic short story!

When I think of superstitious characters, I immediately think of Ichabod Crane. Disney‘s animated adaptation made me an uber fan of this story. I will devour it in any form with rewatches and rereads each year. I just🎃it!

Another last minute #heyjune post! Are the days getting shorter already?! 😬😂🤣 This is a pic I snapped a few years back after browsing & buying in a lovely bookstore we visited when in Washington. I love stopping in book stores I‘ve never seen! Found some cute little #paperbackwriter thrift editions of some classics. Starting a road trip at the end of this week, and I‘m so hoping 🤞🏼 that I find some bookish places to stop along the way!

Check out @MidnightBookGirl 's feed! I might not be going for heavy horror, but I'm definitely in for little chills and friendly ghosts. 😊

MidnightBookGirl I usually re-read a Bunnicula book every October. I also love books with atmosphere, and Legend of Sleepy Hollow has tons of it! 7y
Clare-Dragonfly Ooh, thanks for sharing that! Sounds right up my alley! Anything that feels like fall is. 🍁🍂 7y
