We actually stayed up a bit last night so I could finish this -- nice to get that feeling once in a while! A bit of intrepid Victorian lady plus some romance hit the spot, apparently.

Today I wanted to read this and there was WORK instead. How rude, right?

I'm thinking I'll get at least the next book, since I'm finding this fun (if frustrating when Emily is super naive about men/society). I'll have to order the next one soon, I guess!

I'm enjoying these books, but if Emily doesn't wise up about men wanting to marry her/have sex with her before the end of this one, I'm gonna flip my lid. Yeesh.

Although miles apart in content, both In the Garden of Beasts & Whisper Network were for me, compulsive reads.

⭐️⭐️⭐️+ I wanted to try something old but new for me. I liked Emily, her friends and her three admirers. Of course she is extremely bright and flouts convention but that is why these stories and characters work. The plot was a little too tangled but it might be because I am not familiar with this time period and the theories about the French royal family after its fall. Will read another title in the series soon.

Already finished Book 2 of this series! Lady Emily is finally out of mourning but still not embracing, or being embraced by, society. Instead she‘s busy investigating crimes and juggling her many suitors. So far I‘d give a slight edge to the first book in the series but this one has all the important elements; Murder, mystery, royalty and romance. 3.5 out of 5 ⭐️s

Liked this. Not quite as much as the first one, but certainly enough to keep going with the series. I'm interested to see where Lady Emily is headed.

Another excellent historical mystery featuring Lady Emily Ashton! I really enjoy reading about Emily's intellectual pursuits and her refusal to give them up as Society dictates. Quite a lot of suspense in this story which, for me, came to a satisfactory conclusion.
