Who would you run to if your life fell apart? Meredith had a perfect life. Until her husband was arrested for defrauding everyone they knew out of millions. Hounded by the press, shunned by society, there's only one person she can turn to: her teenage best friend Connie, who she hasn't spoken to in years. But as they retreat to Connie's holiday home on glamorous Nantucket Island, it seems that some of Meredith's ghosts may have followed her. What are Connie's real motives for wanting her there? Who is the mysterious figure out at sea, photographing the two women? And does Meredith know more about her husband's dealings than she's prepared to admit to anyone - even herself? One thing's for sure, before the summer is out, everyone's lives will have changed beyond recognition...

I almost didn‘t want to read this because now I‘m down to one unread physical copy of the EH Nantucket journey. Beyond that, I‘ve yet to read her 1st three books. This was fun even though I thought Meredith was a self-centered friend to Connie (Like what - you show up at the home an old bff you‘ve cut ties with, expect a summer invitation, then begrudge her some plans that don‘t include you - pack your bags Girlfriend!).

Prompt: HEIST

Meredith Delinn certainly didn‘t feel like any dreams were coming true after her husband was arrested for stealing millions from investors.

Many themes presented themselves…..love, health issues, social issues, family and friendship connections, and most evident.....GREED, BETRAYAL, and DECEIT.

I love Hilderbrand‘s writing. While this isn‘t one of my favorites by her, it‘s still very much a pick.

Sadly not for me.. at all!
At first I though it would be an alright change of scenery, and it was at first. Then I caught myself audibly groaning at some of the dialogue 🤦🏻‍♀️ But I did make all the way through, so I guess there‘s that.

Interesting fictionalized account of the Bernie Madoff story from the wife‘s POV. Good, bit a little slower for me than her other books but that may have been because I was listening to it on audio. Always nice to be back on Nantucket for the summer, even if only via book!

Engaging and enjoyable, but not very original is as it too closely mimicked the real life story of Bernie Madoff, the American former market maker, investment advisor, financier who turned his wealth management business into an elaborate Ponzi scheme defrauding thousands of investors of billions of dollars. True to her style, this story is set on beautiful Nantucket Island, was full of drama, romance and scandal. Still a perfect beach read

1. I love them all, but rural is best. 2. Beach. Beach. Beach. 3. Beach 🏝 and shelling. 4. Camping but no tents any longer. At 63, we now have a motor home. 5. Elon Hilderbrand beach books are fun. #hellothursday

Cathythoughts Yes I agree , no more tents ! Loved them back in the day though 😉♥️ 6y
Samplergal @Cathythoughts We were still tent camping in 2015! One morning in the Florida heat and with creaking knees, we looked at each other and said, done! 6y
Cathythoughts We got absolutely drenched... literally water beds ... about 10 years ago .... done ✅ 6y

I loved this novel by Jane Austen. I can't believe I hadn't read it until now. As all Jane Austen novels, it is a love story but this one is of lost and returned love. Pride and Prejudice is still my favorite Austin novel but this is a close 2nd.

3.5/5
This book had me hooked the entire time. I was engrossed in every page and enjoyed thoroughly enjoyed it. However, and a BIG however, the ending was very subpar. What took the author almost 400 pages to build up to, was wrapped up in one chapter. “And then....and then...and then...” was literally the last chapter. There was the climax of the book and then it was done. I was highly disappointed with the ending. The only reason for the So-So.

"Meredith immersed herself in novels. For some reason, fiction hit on the meaning of life so much more concisely than real life itself did." I completely agree. Made me smile.

My plan is to devour this book all weekend. I enjoy her character development and her writing style! It's fun to read outside your norm. I usually stick to fantasy. 😃
